The Redmi Note series’ legacy is defined by a few key aspects ever since phones like the Redmi Note 3 and Note 4 rose to popularity. One of them, has been the camera performance. I still remember taking great shots of snow-capped hills in Manali with a Redmi Note 4 in 2018, and being quite surprised with the details and colours captured by the affordable device.
About six years later, I’m in the middle of reviewing the Redmi Note 14 Pro+, the latest in the series, and the epitome of everything the Note series has stood for over the past few years. To see how far the camera experience on a Redmi Note has come, I decided to take the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ with me on a quick trip to Thailand.

To be clear, Bangkok is one of the prettiest cities I have seen in person, so I put the phone through its paces on the streets of the city, trying to capture everyday life, while purposely leaving out the fancy, paid attractions (which I believe will look good on just about any camera). With that out of the way, here’s our Redmi Note 14 Pro+’s camera review.
Redmi Note 14 Pro+ camera review: What’s good?
I appreciated several aspects of the Redmi Note 14 Pro+’s camera performance. These include…
Colours
The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ offered a pretty accurate colour representation of the subjects and landscapes. This held true in both low-light scenarios and during the day. Check out the Sunflowers below – the yellow you see in the photos below, is the exact shade of yellow I saw.
Meanwhile, the image of this rare brown pigeon I managed to catch on camera really helped me tell people I saw a unique-coloured pigeon in the city. With colours not accurately portrayed, this can often be a problem with affordable phones in the segment. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case with the Redmi Note 14 Pro+.
Contrast
You know how a lot of people find photos taken by some phones a little more pleasing to the eye? That’s usually because of better contrasts in pictures, and this is an aspect where the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ excels.
The camera takes shots with a perfect blend of shadows and highlights that gives photos with multiple elements a nice look. Like this photo of a highway taken from a bridge, which is a combination of shadows as well as well-lit elements.
You can also take this shot of the insides of a traditional Thai Tuk Tuk. The cool shadows inside the popular public transport show a nice duality compared to the brighter outsides, an effect you get because of that nice contrast in the picture.
Details
Details are an important part of every camera, and this was not a problem with the Redmi Note 14 Pro+. With zoomed in shots like this one of the Tom Yum Noodles, you can still see all the ingredients in the frame clearly.
Even with shots of buildings and monuments like the one below, you can zoom in easily to see more detail. This is great because it allows you to crop most wider shots later on, without compromising on sharpness of elements.
Low-light performance
With phones in this segment, low-light performance can be a hit and miss. However, I did manage to click some great night-time shots with the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ in the dark, allowing subjects to naturally shine and stand out. The Chinese lanterns below are a great example of this.
Something to note is that the exposure blowing out on shots with a lot of lighting in the dark can be a bit of a problem at times, so you may want to lower the exposure before taking a click to neutralise that to some extent. A good example of this is this lovely, lit-up bridge over Ong Ang canal in central Bangkok.
Front camera performance
I loved the selfie camera on the Redmi Note 14 Pro+. While it didn’t blow my mind, I did manage to click good shots that did not mess up my skin tone, retained enough detail and yet kept colours looking natural. You can check out the samples below to get what I mean.
Unboxed take: Should you buy the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ for its cameras?
The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ has a very versatile and capable camera setup, and the photos I took over my time in India and overseas with the device have been a good testament to that. For anyone looking to get a good camera phone in this segment, the Note 14 Pro+ is a great choice.
But that’s just my views on the camera. For a more comprehensive opinion on the rest of the phone, stay tuned to Unboxed by Croma for our full review.
