Smartphones with colour-changing or colour-shifting backs aren’t new. We have seen devices that change their back’s colour when exposed to sunlight or glow. But Realme is bringing a smartphone series with a cold-sensitive colour-changing back, which may offer a novelty in the smartphone market.
The company confirmed that its next smartphones, the Realme 14 Pro and Pro+, will feature a back panel that changes colour when exposed to the cold weather. Sounds interesting? Read to know more about the phone’s design, features, and release timeline.
Realme 14 Pro series to have a unique colour-changing design
The upcoming Realme 14 Pro series, which is set to launch in January, will feature a cold-sensitive colour-changing design. As per Realme, the back panel will incorporate advanced thermochromic pigments that react to temperature fluctuations. As a result, below 16 degrees, the colour of the back cover of the phones will shift from pearl white to vibrant blue.
Realme says that the Realme 14 Pro series’ colour-changing back panel will complement its unique pearl design. The device will feature a textured back, which was achieved with organic seashell powder. Realme also used the 30-step fusion fiber process using 95 per cent eco-friendly and bio-based materials.
In the past, we have seen phones from Vivo and Tecno, like the Vivo V23, Vivo V25, and Tecno Camon 19 Mondrian, that boast a colour-changing design. However, all of these models used a method with which the back panel used to switch colours when exposed to sunlight or UV light. Realme’s cold-sensitive method is different from these and is said to be the first such method so far.
Realme 14 Pro series specifications and features
The series is expected to feature a large high-refresh rate display and triple-rear cameras placed in a circular camera island, adding to its looks. The camera system will be accompanied by a triple flash module, which Realme calls MagicGlow.

In terms of performance, series is confirmed to be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7s Gen 3 chipset. This is the same chipset as in the rival Redmi Note 14 Pro+ (review). The Realme 14 Pro series is also confirmed to come with AI features and IP66, IP68, and IP69 rating for dust and water resistance.
The Realme 14 Pro series is confirmed to launch in January, however, an exact release date has yet to be revealed. So, we’ll have to wait for a little longer to know more about that. Upon launch, the series will compete with the newly launched Redmi Note 14 Pro series. Stay tuned for all the updates.
