Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 will bring substantial improvements with affordability

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 launched with improved AI, connectivity, and gaming

Qualcomm has launched their latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 processor, aimed at bridging the gap between their flagship and what is now come to be known as the premium mid-range devices. This processor promises to deliver fast connectivity, processor speed, and download speeds, without the hefty price tag of its more premium cousin.

Flagship grade design with affordable price tag

One of the biggest standout features of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is the fact that it is based on the 4nm process. This can be seen in multiple last-gen flagships, which were based on the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and OnePlus 12.

If Qualcomm’s numbers are anything to go by, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 delivers impressive improvements over the last gen 8s Gen 3. It is touted to have 31 per cent better CPU performance, 49 per cent better GPU performance and 44 per cent better AI performance.

This would translate to faster multi tasking and day to day performance of your device, and also brings in scope for manufacturers to add more nuanced on-device AI models, compared to what was there on the phones powered by the 8s Gen 3.

For the gamers, there is Hardware-Accelerated Ray Tracing with Global Illumination, which would reflect in your games in the form of improved, more true to life visuals. There’s also the improvement in photography, which will enable Night Vision 2.0 on 8s Gen 4 equipped phones, resulting in detailed videos in low-light and 4K at 30fps video recording.

You will also see general improvements in skin tones and sky tones, thanks to the real-time processing of the same. There’s also support for Wi-Fi 7 which could get you connection speeds up to 5.8 Gbps.

Which phones do you think will come with this new chip? Are you excited? We’d love to hear from you! For more news and in-depth analysis of modern tech, keep on following Unboxed by Croma.
