Fast, reliable Wi-Fi on an airplane has been a dream. But it looks like the time of lost connectivity during flights is coming to an end. Qatar Airways has integrated Starlink ultra-high-speed and low-latency internet.
This technology will be introduced on the airline’s entire Boeing 777 fleet. To add to the good news, the company also made it clear that this service will be available to all passengers for free from gate to gate.
Qatar Airways adopts Starlink internet
Engineered by SpaceX, Starlink internet is said to be the world’s first and largest satellite constellation using a low Earth orbit to provide reliable high-speed internet.
It helps the passengers to stay connected with friends and family, stream their favourite entertainment, watch live sports, play online games, or work efficiently at 35,000 feet in the sky.
The airline further mentions how there will be no need to enter your name, seat number or frequent flyer number to join the Wi-Fi. All users need to do is join the in-flight OryxComms hotspot.

Rather than forcing passengers to log out from their laptop before reconnecting the internet on their smartphone, this technology opens possibilities to use internet across various devices at the same time. This will all be made possible with a simple ‘one-click-access’ procedure.
Qatar Airways has flown a special flight, a Starlink-optimised Boeing 777, from London to Doha on October 22. The inaugural flight clocked a reliable 150Mbps for downloads with an uplink at 50Mpbs.
Going forward, the airline aims to have a dozen Boeing 777s to possess this ability by the end of 2024 and the rest of the 777 fleet will get upgraded within 12 months. After this process has been completed, the Qatar Airbus A350 fleet will be the next aircraft to get this technology by mid-2025.
