The Plant Watering Reminder app helped me care for my plant with minimal efforts

Unlike my mother, I’m not really big on plants. Of course, my family believes I have a green thumb. But with my mother off on her long-due vacation, the responsibilities of tending to her plant babies came to – you guessed it right – me. And, that’s when I realised that my green thumb has a fatal flaw – it forgets to water the plants!

I tried setting reminders and leaving post-its for myself, but all in vain. As my last attempt at being responsible, I ended up scouring the Play Store for an app to do my job for me. It was then that I downloaded the Plant Watering Reminder app.

What is the Plant Watering Reminder app?

The Plant Watering Reminder app by Futasaji LLC was made to simplify your plant care process. It helps users to keep a log of all their plants and gives out customised reminders to water each of them as per their convenience or their plant’s requirements.

With simple yet useful features like a calendar and notes, customising a watering schedule for all your plants from a rose sapling to a cactus becomes super easy. The app doesn’t just keep track of your watering schedule, but also stores notes and images to help you monitor the growth of your plants.

What did I think of the Plant Watering Reminder app?

Plant Watering Reminder has a simple interface, which made it super easy for me to navigate through. I could use the app as soon as I downloaded it without needing to sign up. However, I was required to log in if I wished to have a backup of all my data.

Other than the Homepage that displays a calendar and my watering log for the day, the app has four other tabs – Plant, Notes, Customize, and Settings.

The Plant section is where I could set up watering reminders and it gave me quick access to each of my plant’s logs as well as notes. Notes was a nice feature that documented my plants’ growth along with their images. It also helped me to remember if my plants need special fertilisers or changes in the water quantity, etc.

The Customize tab, on the other hand, gives us an option of changing characters and the overall theme of the app, but it asked me to watch ads in order to unlock them. Settings gave me access to edit the notification timings, colour schemes for the interface, backup, etc.

According to me, the best part about this app is that you can customise the water schedule based on your plant’s specific needs. I personally did not have plants that don’t need to be watered daily, such as succulents, spider plants or even cacti, but if you are someone with a diverse plant collection, this would work great for you.

The app otherwise is quite plain as it mainly focuses on watering reminders and logs. It isn’t for someone looking for any additional botanical information or plant care advice.

​I liked how I could adjust the notification timings to fit my schedule, as my weekdays and weekend mornings look very different! However, I believe it would’ve been better if this app could give me a reminder, not just as a notification, but as an alarm too.

How to get the Plant Watering Reminder app

The Plant Watering Reminder app is available for Android smartphones and tablets as well as iPhones and iPads. The app is free for all, but some themes or character customisations require you to watch ads to unlock them.

It is perfect for people who want to nail their plant care routine with little to minimal effort, or for people like me, who forget that plants need some hydrating too.
