The OnePlus Open Apex Edition is more than a crimson red paintjob

OnePlus recently launched the OnePlus Open Apex Edition in India. The Android phone may seem like a red-coloured version of the vanilla OnePlus Open, but it actually more than just a new colour, including some hardware changes and new features.

This makes one of the best foldable phones right now, even better. Here is all you need to know about the new OnePlus Open Apex Edition, including all its new features, pricing and availability.

OnePlus Open Apex Edition: What’s new?

The OnePlus Open Apex Edition comes in a new ‘Crimson Shadow’ colour, which includes the vegan leather finish you find on regular variants of the phone. Additionally, the phone also comes with the new AI Eraser and AI Smart Cutout feature that lets you change or remove objects from a photograph. There are also some new features exclusive to the Apex Edition.

These include the new VIP Mode, which uses a new encryption chip in the phone to improve your privacy. Although it is unclear how OnePlus will implement the feature, it is integrated with the phone’s alert slider, allowing you to use the hardware toggle to put the phone in the new VIP privacy mode.

The foldable phone also comes in a single storage variant with 16GB RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage – the highest configuration you can get with the device. Other specifications, however, are the same as the regular OnePlus Open.

This includes a 7.82-inch folding inner display, triple rear cameras including two 48MP sensors and a 64MP telephoto sensor, a 4,805mAh battery and 67W fast wired charging.

The phone is also powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which is a slightly dated chip right now, considering we already have the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and are close to getting the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 later this year.

The OnePlus Open Apex Edition is priced at Rs 1,49,990 (Rs 10,000 more than the vanilla variants of the phone), and will be available from the OnePlus India website from August 10. Buyers also get a three-month subscription of Microsoft 365 Personal with the purchase.

However, if you don’t like the new Crimson Shadow shade and won’t be using the privacy features, you can still consider the vanilla OnePlus Open, or if you’re looking for a more powerful chipset, the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6.
