OnePlus’ latest Nord phone sports a new look, and plenty of upgrades

OnePlus Nord 4 5G launched in India with metal unibody design, 4 years of software updates

OnePlus has (finally) taken the wraps off its flagship offering in the fourth-generation Nord series of mid-range smartphones – the OnePlus Nord 4 5G. The company unveiled the phone at its Summer Launch event in Milan alongside the OnePlus Pad 2, the OnePlus Watch 2R, and the OnePlus Nord Buds 3 Pro.

Here’s all you need to know about the new phone.

OnePlus Nord 4 5G: Key features and specifications

Powered by a Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC, the OnePlus Nord 4 5G is available in 8GB RAM variants with either 128GB or 256GB of storage, and a 12GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage as well. The battery on the device is a 5,5000mAh unit, the largest battery on a OnePlus phone ever. It gets support for 100W fast charging, which allows you to charge the phone up to 100 per cent in just 28 minutes.

On-board is also OnePlus’ Battery Health Engine, which uses AI technology to analyse the amount of power going into the phone, as well as how much time it requires to be charged fully. With this, according to OnePlus, the battery on the Nord 4 5G has been tested to survive more than 1,600 charging cycles or over four years of use, and still retain over 80 per cent of its original capacity.

The OnePlus Nord 4 5G sports a 6.74-inch OLED display, with a 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, and a peak brightness of 2,150 nits. On offer is also Ultra HDR support as well as Aqua Touch, which is also available on the more premium OnePlus 12R and flagship OnePlus 12.

The device, a first for the Nord lineup, comes housed in a metal unibody chassis, which happens to be super thin as well, at 0.8cm. That means the OnePlus Nord 4 5G should be much sturdier than earlier, and have an in-hand feel much closer to its more expensive siblings.

The OnePlus Nord 4 5G sports a horizontal offset camera setup at the rear, vaguely reminiscent of the Nothing Phone (2a). It gets a 50MP primary sensor, accompanied by an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor. On the front is a 16MP sensor housed in a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout, for selfies and video calls.

The device, which comes running Android 14-based Oxygen OS 14 straight out of the box, gets four years of software updates (as compared to the usual three years of updates previously) and six years of security patch updates. With this, OnePlus claims that the Nord 4 5G should continue to function as per usual for six years at a stretch.

That’s not all on the software front, though. OnePlus’ latest smartphone also gets a host of AI-enabled features on-board, including an AI Writer to compose messages, AI Summarise which can record and transcribe, take notes and create summaries of long meetings, AI Smart Cutout which allows you to crop subjects from images, an AI Eraser which allows you to remove unwanted people and objects from an image, and more.

What’s cool is, the OnePlus Nord 4 5G also gets a 5G Network Intelligence feature. What this does is, learn locations you frequent, and accelerate signal recovery when you exit spots such as elevators or basements. The company claims that the phone had zero call drops on WhatsApp, in tests that it conducted in an elevator.

OnePlus Nord 4 5G: Pricing and availability

The OnePlus Nord 4 5G will be available in three colourways – Mercurial Silver, Obsidian Midnight and Oasis Green. It is priced at Rs 29,999 for the 8 RAM and 128GB storage variant, whereas the 8GB RAM and 256GB storage variant is priced at Rs 32,999. The 12GB RAM variant, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 35,999.

The device is available for pre-order starting July 20, and goes on sale on August 2. It can be purchased from OnePlus’ official website and store, as well as from all other major e-commerce portals and partner retail outlets across the country. A few other options you can consider in the price range are the Oppo F27 Pro+ 5G, the Redmi Note 13 Pro+ 5G and the Samsung Galaxy A35 5G.
