OnePlus introduces new AI Eraser that will zap those unwanted elements from your photos

OnePlus has introduced an AI Eraser, marking a debut within the generative AI category. The tool, christened AI Eraser, will be powered by its proprietary large language model. While the smartphone maker has promised a more elaborate AI suite in the near future, for now, here’s everything you need to know about the announcement. Read on:

OnePlus AI Eraser: What's there to know?

The OnePlus AI Eraser allows you to highlight a portion of your image and erase — or remove — it completely from the final photo. So, if you had unwanted pedestrians in your Eiffel Tower photo, the tool will help remove them and give you that Instagram-worthy shot that you were aiming for.

The tool essentially works by adding a background to your photo to replace the selected area. The new patch is said to seamlessly blend with the rest of your photo, ensuring it doesn’t compromise on the original style and look.

According to OnePlus, the proprietary large language model was trained on a vast dataset and works especially fast on complex scenes. The company also claims that its visual intelligence lets the AI Eraser fill in the gaps by fitting in replacements instead of simply detracting them from the photo quality.

Which OnePlus smartphones will get the AI Eraser?

The feature, which is slated to roll out sometime in mid-April, will only be available to a select few OnePlus smartphones. These include the OnePlus 12, OnePlus12R, OnePlus 11, the OnePlus Open, and Nord CE 4. However, it still remains unclear as to whether this addition will appear as an update or show up within the photos app. The move pits OnePlus against several competitors such as Samsung and Google, but we might have to wait a while longer to see where the company is headed with its new direction.
