OnePlus took wraps off the OnePlus 13 series on Tuesday. The series comprises two devices – the OnePlus 13 and the OnePlus 13R. Both models come with an improved design, new hardware, and the latest software. But what’s the exact difference between the two?

Don’t fret, as we are comparing both the models in this story, letting you know the exact difference between their hardware and software features. So, if you are planning to purchase any of the two devices, read on.

OnePlus 13 vs OnePlus 13R: Design and display

Design-wise, the OnePlus 13 duo look near identical, however, the more premium OnePlus 13 has a horizontal line next to its rear camera island. There’s also the Hasselblad branding at the top. It also has a pattered back for the Black Eclipse shade and a leather look for the Midnight Ocean colour.

The OnePlus 13R is a toned-down version that looks simpler and doesn’t have a Hasselblad branding or the horizontal line next to the camera island. The OnePlus 13R boasts a flat-screen display on the front, whereas, the OnePlus 13 features a screen that’s slightly curved from the sides.

As for the specifications, the OnePlus 13 features a larger 6.82-inch LTPO 4.1 AMOLED display with up to 4,500 nits of peak brightness, up to 120Hz refresh rate, and a Ceramic Guard protection.

The OnePlus 13R, on the other hand, has a 6.78-inch LTPO 4.1 AMOLED screen with the same resolution, brightness, and refresh rate as the 13, but with a Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. Both phones have an Aqua Touch 2.0 display, ensuring that every swipe registers even with oily or wet fingers.

Coming to the cameras, there’s a triple-rear camera system on the OnePlus 13 with a 50MP Sony LYT-808 main sensor, a 50MP LYT-600 telephoto sensor having 3x optical zoom, and a 50MP S5KJN5 ultra-wide sensor. There’s OIS for main and the telephoto sensor.

The OnePlus 13R also gets triple rear cameras, but with a slightly different setup. It has a 50MP Sony LYT-700 main sensor, a 50MP SKJN5 telephoto sensor with 2x optical zoom, and an 8MP ultra-wide unit. Here, only the main sensor has OIS support for stable footage.

The main camera on the 13 supports up to 8K videos at 30fps, whereas, the 13R is capable of recording up to 4K videos at 60fps. The former has a 32MP selfie camera, while the 13R gets a 16MP selfie snapper.

In terms of performance, the OnePlus 13 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, which is the latest and the most powerful chipset from Qualcomm. The OnePlus 13R draws power from a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC, which is last year’s flagship chipset from Qualcomm.

Both phones come with a base 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, but the OnePlus 13 also comes with up to 24GB RAM + 1TB storage variant in India.

There’s a 6,000mAh battery inside both models, with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging support on the 13. The 13R has an 80W wired charging support and lacks support for wireless charging.

Both models boot on Android 15-based OxygenOS 15 and have a bunch of AI features, such as AI Reply, AI Notes, AI Image Reflection, AI Unblur, and an AI-powered search. There’s also Google’s Circle to Search feature on both phones.  OnePlus is giving four years of Android and six years of security support with models.

The OnePlus 13R has an IP65 rating, whereas, the OnePlus 13 gets IP68 + IP69 rating for a better dust and water resistance. Both phones have 5G and 5.5G, with the latter exclusively for Jio users. There’s also Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support for connectivity.

To sum up the OnePlus 13 vs OnePlus 13R showdown, the former, from Rs 69,999, gets you a slightly more powerful chipset, a better telephoto lens, faster charging, AI features, and better durability. The 13R, however, for the starting price of Rs 42,999, gets you most of the needed hardware along with AI features, while being slightly affordable.
