OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R: What’s different?

Find out if the OnePlus 12R has an edge over its predecessor

OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R: What’s different?

OnePlus took the wraps off its new flagship smartphones; however, tech enthusiasts are already aware of how the China-based company unveils two flagship-tier phones at a time. While the OnePlus 12R differs vastly in theory when compared with its premium variant, how does it fare when put next to its predecessor? We compare the OnePlus 12R with the OnePlus 11R to tell you all that’s different between the two — and if you’re due for an upgrade.

OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R: Design and display

Apart from minor design deviations, the OnePlus 12R and OnePlus 11R will appear largely similar on the surface. Both phones sport a slightly off-centre camera island at the back, still prone to wobble. With a marginal difference in thickness of 74mm and 75mm, both smartphones may also feel identical to hold.

Perhaps the only major difference is that the OnePlus 12R comes with an aluminium frame along with a glass back instead of plastic, which was once a part of the OnePlus 11R design.

Both smartphones come with an AMOLED display, along with an HRD10+ certification, but the OnePlus 12R gets a slightly larger display this time around of 6.78 inches. You even get a refresh rate of 120Hz, keeping both devices nearly at par with each other.

That said, OnePlus has clearly brought in a notable upgrade of 4,500 nits peak brightness for the 12R, which was otherwise 1,300 nits for the OnePlus 11R.

OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R: What’s different?

OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R: Performance and battery life

The OnePlus 12R is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, which is a notch above the Gen 1 in OnePlus 11R. The Snapdragon Gen 2 unmistakably gives you the levelled-up performance you need in the phone and beats Gen 1 in efficiency.

The OnePlus 12R offers 8GB RAM and 128GB storage capacity, which is the same as the OnePlus 11R. While the former comes with an Android 14-based OxygenOS 14, the 11R may seem slightly stepped down owing to OxygenOS 13.

The company earlier had a 5,000mAh capacity for its 11R but has now amped the battery life for the OnePlus 12R with a 5,500mAh unit. While this may be a tad more, there is still no scope to charge it wirelessly.

OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R: Camera and connectivity

The OnePlus 12R, like its predecessor, offers a triple camera setup with a 50MP main camera, 8MP ultrawide and a 2MP macro lens. Similarly, on the front, both devices give you a single 16MP camera for video calls and selfies.

Neither of the phones sport a headphone jack and come with stereo speakers. The new smartphone, however, will support Wi-Fi 7.0 connectivity.

OnePlus 12R vs OnePlus 11R: Which one is right for you?

While the OnePlus 12R and the OnePlus 11R definitely share a common title and a similar facade, there isn’t really a lot in theory and functionality that is different between the two. The OnePlus 12R is priced at Rs 33,999 and will come with new shades, including Iron Gray and Cool Blue.

However, if you’re already using the OnePlus 11R, an upgrade may not entirely seem worth the spend. That said, there’s no denying that it does make for an excellent device if you’re looking for a near-flagship experience on a budget.
