OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R launched in India: All you need to know

OnePlus today unveiled its highly anticipated OnePlus 12 and OnePlus 12R smartphones at its Smooth Beyond Belief event. The smartphones are successors to the OnePlus 11 and OnePlus 11R smartphones respectively. Here’s all you need to know about OnePlus’ latest entrants in the flagship and budgetflagship smartphone arena.

OnePlus 12: Key specifications and features

The OnePlus 12 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest chipset for flagship smartphones – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. The chipset, in addition to being more powerful and efficient as compared to its predecessor, also brings AI capabilities from the cloud right to your devices.

The OnePlus 12 is available in two variants, with up to 16GB LPPDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage. Under the hood is a 5,400mAh battery, which supports 100W SuperVOOC wired charging and 50W wireless charging, which the company claims, can charge the phone up to 50 per cent in just 23 minutes.

The display on the OnePlus 12 is a 6.82-inch ProXDR display with a 2K resolution, which comes with 120Hz refresh rate and 4,500 nits of peak brightness, as well as Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ support. This is also an LTPO panel, allowing on-screen content to drop the refresh rate when required to save battery.

Coming to the cameras, on the back, the OnePlus 12 features a triple camera setup developed in collaboration with Hasselblad, with a 50MP Sony LYT-808 primary sensor, a 48MP ultrawide sensor, and a 64MP 3x periscope telephoto sensor with support for optical image stabilisation. On the front is a 32MP camera for selfies and video calls.

The device features several classic OnePlus design cues – including its circular offset camera island, the signature alert slider, and more. What’s cool though, this time around it also comes with an IR blaster and an official IP65 water and dust resistance rating, which was previously missing on several OnePlus devices.

OnePlus 12R: Key specifications and features

OnePlus’ budget flagship, the OnePlus 12R is powered by Qualcomm’s erstwhile flagship chipset – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 – which was also present on flagships like the OnePlus 11 and the Samsung Galaxy S23. The device will be available with up to 16GB LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB storage.

The OnePlus 12R features a slightly larger 5,500mAh battery with support for 100W SuperVOOC wired charging, same as the OnePlus 12. However, it misses out on wireless charging capabilities.

Coming to the display, the OnePlus 12R has a 6.78-inch ProXDR display as well, with a 1.5K resolution and 120Hz refresh rate. In addition to this, it also has 4,500 nits of peak brightness, same as the OnePlus 12.

Coming to optics, the OnePlus 12R sports a triple camera setup at the rear. The primary 50MP Sony IMX890 sensor here is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. On the front is a 16MP camera for selfies and video calls.

The device also features an offset circular camera island, sans the Hasselblad branding. The phone also features IP54 water and dust resistance and comes with Android 14-based OxygenOS 14 out of the box.

Both the OnePlus 12 and 12R feature aqua touch, which means that the screens on the devices work well even in the rain. Any water droplets on the screen will not result in ghost touches.

OnePlus 12, OnePlus 12R: Pricing and availability

The OnePlus 12 can be purchased in flowy emerald and silk black colourways and is priced at Rs 64,999 for the base 256GB storage and 12GB RAM variant. The 16GB RAM variant with 512GB storage is priced at Rs 69,999.

The OnePlus 12R on the other hand is available in cool blue and iron grey colourways, and is priced at Rs 39,999 for the base variant with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage. The 16GB RAM variant with 256GB of storage is priced at Rs 45,999.

Pre-orders for the phones start today, and they will be available to purchase from January 30. However, if OxygenOS is not for you, you can also consider alternatives like the new Samsung Galaxy S24, or the iPhone 15.
