Nothing Phone (3) may get its very own iPhone-like ‘Action Button’

This iPhone feature may just give the next Nothing Phone an edge over its competition

Nothing Phone (3) may get its very own iPhone-like ‘Action Button’

We saw Nothing launch the Phone (2a) earlier this year, alongside the Nothing Ear and Nothing Ear (a), all of which were fantastic products. However, the company is seemingly gearing up for its next product, because Nothing CEO Carl Pei has already started dropping some hints around the Nothing Phone (3).

As per a new image shared by Pei on X, Nothing is working on a redesigned quick settings panel. A step away from its usual stock-Android aesthetic, the new quick settings panel shows smaller and larger tiles alongside each other, giving the UI a more Control Centre-like look inspired by Apple iPhones.

There’s even a new slider which looks like it will facilitate quicker switching between the ringer, vibration-only and silent modes of the phone.

Nothing took a similar approach with its widgets last year, allowing users to set quick settings widgets in 1×1, 2×1 or 2×2 grids, giving all Nothing Phone users a significant improvement when comes to customisability.

This may be our first look at the Nothing Phone (3)

Aside from the new quick settings redesign, something else in the image caught the attention of fans – a new button positioned below the power button on the right edge of the phone. This new button, which can be clearly seen in all the three images shared by Pei, is a feature that’s missing on all the three phones Nothing has launched so far.

This is precisely why there’s a good chance that the device in the visuals could be the next smartphone by the brand, which possibly may be called the Nothing Phone (3). Of course, the button may end up being called something else by the time the phone launches, but what it does may largely be the same.

Nothing may make the button a quick shortcut button to your favourite app, or give it additional features like doubling up as a shutter button in the camera app. We may even see multiple functionality that can be triggered by single-pressing, long-pressing, or double-pressing the button – something that even the iPhone 15 Pro series misses out on.

Considering this to be our first look at the product, we can now make out some other details about the phone from the image. This includes a centre-aligned notch and slim, uniform bezels. Unfortunately, we still have no look at the back panel of the phone, which usually is the most interesting aspect of a new Nothing Phone.

We still have no hint as to when the next Nothing Phone could launch. What we do know is that both the Nothing Phone (1) and the Nothing Phone (2) have launched in the month of July, so it will be a good guess to assume that’s when we see the device made official. This gives us over a month for the launch, plenty of time for some more official teasers for the device.
