Nothing Phone (2a): What to expect from the brand’s third smartphone

Nothing has been working on its third smartphone and ahead of an official launch, more and more details have started to leak online. With an expected launch timeline next month, possibly at MWC 2024, the new Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to feature a similar design and head back to the mid-range market. Here’s everything you need to know about the phone, including expected price, features, and specifications.

Nothing Phone (2a) expected specifications

As per a report by Smartprix, the Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to sport a similar design to Nothing’s previous smartphones – the Phone (2) and Phone (1). This includes the brand’s signature Glyph Interface lights on the back, a boxy aluminium frame, and a glass layer on the front and back. Additionally, there is likely to be a dual-camera island on the top left on the back panel.

What we don’t yet know is if the phone will feature the segmented Glyph lights of the Phone (2), or fewer, longer LED panels like the Phone (1), although we expect it to be the latter.

The device is expected to be a midrange device, similar to the Nothing Phone (1). However, one major change expected is the switch to a MediaTek processor instead of a Snapdragon one. The Phone (2a) is expected to sport a MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chipset, which would put it up against other mid-range phones like those powered by the Snapdragon 7-series chips.

The phone is also expected to feature a 6.7-inch FHD+ screen with 120Hz refresh rate, although we may not see an LTPO panel like the Phone (2), which means refresh rate values may be locked to 60Hz and 120Hz. The device is also expected to launch in two colours, Black and White, which make it even more similar to the Phone (1) since it seems we will not see the Grey variant we saw with the Phone (2).

The smartphone is also likely to sport a Samsung 50MP ISOCELL JN1 main camera sensor in its dual-rear camera setup. The other camera is expected to be an ultrawide lens. The Phone (2a) is, however, expected to sport a 32MP Sony IMX615 sensor on the front, which will likely be housed in a centre-aligned or corner-aligned punch-hole camera sensor.

When will the Nothing Phone (2a) launch?

The Nothing Phone (2a) is expected to launch officially at the “Nothing to See” event at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024, which will take place in February 2024. The phone could then make its way to various markets including India in the following weeks.
