Doing chores was never a preferred way of passing time for me, but like a good kid, I tried to help my parents out as much as I could. It did make me wonder how people who live with roommates manage all their household work. So, out of curiosity, I searched for apps that helped you track your household chores, and I found Nipto.
Here’s what the Nipto app is, what it does, and how to use it with your friends and family.
What is the Nipto app?
Nipto turns your household chores into a fun little game to help you stay motivated and make chores more manageable for everyone.
You can organise a game with your family, partner or roommates in order to divide work equally. You just start a game, do the chores and collect points throughout the week. The person who has collected the most points is elected as the winner every Sunday evening.

You can set up common tasks in your homes, and track each member’s progress. It’s a fun, agreeable way of managing tasks in the form of a competition instead of fighting over who does what chores or who contributes more.
It is a perfect app to have if you live with roommates or want to help your family with daily housework instead of that burden falling on just one person.
What did I think of the Nipto app?
Once I downloaded the app, I had to sign up and was prompted to create a group where I could invite other members to share chores with me. Once I shared the link, my family members had to download the app and accept the link in order to join the group.
The app has a friendly (absolutely adorable) interface with five tabs – the Homepage, Tasks list, Schedule, Scores, and. The interface is designed in a way that people of all age groups can use it stress-free.

The Homepage displayed my To-do list for the current week and a basic overview of how many points I earned last week. When I tap on Validate Task, that’s where it displays all the tasks that need to be done along with the points that they get you.
It also allows you the option of making an entry for the tasks you did right away with the the Just now button, or make a late entry using the Before button for tasks you forgot to mark before.
The Tasks list tab shows you all the chores you and your teammates have decided upon. I opted for the tasks already on the app, but you can create your own unique task lists too. They are all divided into different sections, like kitchen, laundry, trash, bathroom, living room, so on and so forth. This made finding a specific task that I wanted to do super easy, instead of me having to scroll through an endless list.
The Schedule tab allowed me to schedule tasks for schedule so that I don’t forget to finish my assigned tasks. You can opt for scheduled tasks daily or even monthly if you like. The app also allows you to set a special time for your reminders. While the Statistics tab shows a bar comparing everyone’s points. It continues to taunt me as my mom always manages to finish more chores than I am able to.
The Settings tab is where I found the options to add and manage members, rules of the game and, of course, my personal account settings.

I think Nipto is great because it didn’t just track my tasks and made managing them easy, but it helped me look at these tasks as “side quests” on my main mission. With the rewards set in place (mango kulfi), I was actually motivated to finish my tasks while having fun, instead of it just feeling like a hassle that I had to deal with. My mom is just happy that I’m helping out at home more now.
The app is also super flexible with the group management. So, if you’re in a situation where you change households often, it’s super easy to leave a group and join another.
While my overall experience has been great, there are a few things that could be counted as drawbacks. While you can customise your own tasks, the existing tasks along with their point system is quite simple. This hinders taking into account tasks like cooking where it might take more than one member to finish a task. The app has also missed reminders in my case.
The biggest bummer, however, is that the app didn’t let me track my statistics before the previous week. It doesn’t have a long-term tracking option for your tasks.
How to get the Nipto app
Nipto is available for both Android smartphones and tablets, as well as iPhones and iPads.
While the free version of the app allows you access to most features and limited tracking options, you can get the Premium version at just Rs 180 per month, Rs 1,350 per year, or Rs 1,800 for a lifetime premium subscription. The Premium version allows you to involve kids in the game with parental control, offers enhanced reminders and customisation, gives you an unlimited history and advanced statistics.
If you wish to make housework fun for you, and your family or roommates, try Nipto!
