Nintendo Alarmo is here to wake you up to Mario themes and more

Nintendo, a company known for making games, has launched its new product, a Nintendo Sound Clock: Alarmo. Instead of simply waking you up, the Alarmo immerses you in your favourite Nintendo world and responds to your body movements using motion sensors.

The latter also means it can be snoozed by waving your arm, which already makes it much more interesting compared to your boring old smartphone alarm. Here’s everything you need to know about what the Nintendo Alarmo is and what it can do.

What can Alarmo do?

The Nintendo Alarmo is a cute little alarm clock at its core, but one that has access to a library of Nintendo-exclusive sounds, along with some clever smart features.

Select a title, pick a scene, set a time, and Alarmo will take care of the rest. Once it is time to wake up, you will hear immersive sounds and music from the scene you picked, which is a creative way to get up in the morning. Alarmo also doubles up as a motion-sensing alarm clock that registers your movements. This lets it do things like figure out if you are already out of bed before blasting away.

It will subject you to a barrage of obnoxious sound effects and loud music until you finally surrender. Once you manage to wake up and get out of bed, Alarmo will reward you with a satisfying fanfare with a victorious soundtrack from a game of your choosing.

Additionally, Alarmo will also intensify its sounds if it doesn’t manage to wake you up with its regular theatrics in the first 20 minutes. Imagine being jolted awake by Bowser’s menacing laughter or panic-inducing piano theme of the Guardians from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when you’re running late for office.

Other features

Besides immersing you in your favourite games, Alarmo will also provide insights into how well you have been sleeping. You can track your sleep movements with the Records feature.

It allows you to switch between modes: Steady Mode increases intensity as you linger, Gentle Mode keeps a soft consistency, and Button Mode for the classic snooze button. Additionally, you can also program some soothing bedtime sounds to help you sleep.

The clock also lets you customise your wake-up routine with 35 different scenes from Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 3, Pikmin 4, and Ring Fir Adventure. By linking your Nintendo account, you can unlock extra scenes through free updates.

If you are eager to get your hands on the Alarmo, it is available for $99.99 (about Rs 8,300) in the United States and Canada for now. For others who wish to purchase the high-tech alarm clock, will have to wait till early 2025 for it. Whether the Nintendo Alarmo will be launched in India remains to be seen.
