Mark Zuckerberg-owned Meta unveiled its second generation of smart glasses in collaboration with Ray-Ban last year. This year, the brand has announced a massive upgrade to its artificial intelligence-related features, which will equip the wearable device with plenty of new abilities, including live translation and reminders. Here’s everything it can do now.
Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses: What's new?
At its annual event, Meta showcased AI video processing features and live language translation that will soon be coming to the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. Meta Ray-Ban also comes with a built-in camera which will now be able to scan custom items such as QR codes as well as support integration with iHeartRadio and Audible.
Apart from this, Meta has also equipped the glasses with its new Llama 3.2 model, which will allow users to carry out live translation. In a video, Mark Zuckerberg demonstrated a conversation with Brandon Moreno where he used Meta AI to translate English and Spanish spoken languages for the two of them.

Another significant addition to the smart glasses is memory support. With this update, users will be able to prompt the wearable to remind them of where they parked their car. It can also remind them to pick up fruits at a store or set reminders of an important event.
This time around, Meta has also partnered with Be My Eyes, an accessibility service provider, which is a free app that connects blind and low-vision people with sighted volunteers. It adds a POV video calling feature that lets the volunteers see what is in front of the user and guide them about their surroundings.
Lastly, the update will work hands-free and can be operated simply by using voice commands. This means users can easily have a conversation with Meta AI by simply calling out ‘Hey Meta’ to summon it.
Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses: When will the new update be available for everyone?
While Meta hasn’t provided an exact date for exactly when the new features will make their way to the Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses, Mark Zuckerberg mentions how it will be available ‘soon’. Meta is also reportedly working on unveiling new limited-edition smart glasses in a clear frame option.
Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses are currently unavailable in India; however, they can be purchased and shipped online from Meta’s official website. For more updates and news, don’t forget to subscribe to Unboxed by Croma.
