Setting up for offline UPI payments

Before you can make UPI payments without the internet, you need to ensure you have the necessary features enabled and set up on your phone. The process differs slightly depending on whether you’re using a smartphone or a feature phone.

For Smartphone Users (UPI 123Pay):

– Check for UPI 123Pay support: Ensure your bank and UPI app support UPI 123Pay. Most major banks and UPI apps in India now offer this functionality.

– Link your mobile number to your bank account: This is crucial, as offline UPI payments rely on your registered mobile number. Contact your bank to link your number if you haven’t already.

– Set your UPI PIN: You’ll need your UPI PIN to authorise offline transactions. If you haven’t set one, do so through your UPI app.

Making an offline UPI payment

Once you have everything set up, making an offline UPI payment is a straightforward process. Here’s how:

Dial the IVR number: Dial the designated IVR number for UPI offline payments. This number may vary depending on your bank or UPI app, so check with your provider for the correct number.

Follow the voice prompts: The IVR system will guide you through the payment process. You’ll typically be asked to select your preferred language, choose the payment option (e.g., pay to mobile number, pay to UPI ID), and enter the recipient’s details.

Enter the payment amount: Use your phone’s keypad to enter the amount you wish to transfer.

Enter your UPI PIN: To authorise the transaction, enter your UPI PIN when prompted.

Confirm the payment: Once you’ve entered all the necessary details, the IVR system will confirm the payment details. Listen carefully and confirm the transaction.

Receive confirmation: You’ll receive an SMS confirmation once the payment is successful.

Alternative methods for offline UPI payments

Besides the IVR method, there are other ways to make UPI payment without internet:

Using app functionality: Some UPI apps have built-in features for offline payments. These apps may use methods like sound waves or proximity communication to complete transactions. Check your UPI app for any offline payment options.

Using SMS: You can also initiate UPI payments through SMS. This involves sending an SMS to a designated number with specific keywords and payment details. Again, check with your bank or UPI app for the correct format and number.
