Truly wireless earbuds have successfully eliminated the hassle of untangling messy wires during an impromptu call. They’re also incredibly useful if you prefer a complete, hands-free experience. But, like its pros, there are cons, and perhaps the biggest one is losing an earbud.
Apart from looking frantically and backtracing your steps, there isn’t a lot you can do when you flip open the case of your Apple AirPods and find one missing. But what if we tell you there is a way to track its location? Here’s what you need to know.
Easy ways to track your lost AirPod
Apple AirPods have built-in tracking to help you locate your earbuds if you happen to misplace them. Read on to know how you can go about it.
If you’ve lost your Apple AirPods, chances are you’ve spent the first 10 minutes panicking. However, there is a foolproof way to find out where you’ve dropped one. If your AirPods are paired to an iOS device, you can access the Find My app on your iPad or iPhone to check their status.
This app gives you an overview of all your Apple devices integrated together via Bluetooth and relays their battery life and location details to you. What’s even more interesting is that it doesn’t require your AirPods to be online and can detect them while they’re offline as well.

All you have to do is click on your Apple AirPods listed in the app and select the right or left earbud (depending on the one you wish to locate). Apple will display its last known location. You can then select Play Sound to trigger audio from your lost AirPod.
Apart from this, you can even tap on Get Directions if your AirPod is far away. Lastly, if none of these methods work, you can mark it lost and leave your contact details for someone who can return it to you.
What about other brands of earbuds?
Even if you’re an Android user, companies such as Samsung provide in-app tracking if you lose a single earbud. While this technology isn’t widely available for other brands as of today, you can always add your Bluetooth earphones on Android’s Find My Device to locate them when misplaced. However, keep in mind that only the cases of these devices remain traceable, and there is no concrete way to look for a single lost earbud.
