Entertainment on the go

Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 review

Televisions have been our go-to devices for entertainment, but they are restricted to where they are kept or hung. While laptops do allow some manner of portability, who would want to look at those screens after a hard day of work or studies?

The best option then are tablets that let you take your favourite web series or movies with you wherever you go. They feature large-ish screens with batteries that can last a day, and if you get an LTE model, then you are truly free from your desk.

If you’ve been on the lookout for such a device, there are a few reasons why you should check out the Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2. Having spent the past few days using it, we reveal these reasons in our Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 review.

Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 design

The design of the second-gen Lenovo tablet is quite similar to the first-gen model. The dual-tone colour scheme on the back is retained and so is the ratio of the metal and plastic panels. The front is dominated by the 11.5-inch screen with generous bezels surrounding it.

The overall dimensions and weight (520 grams) don’t make it the easiest tablet to hold. But find a way to prop it on a surface, and it becomes the perfect entertainment machine. The edges of the tablet host the various physical buttons, a SIM card slot, and POGO pins to connect external accessories like Lenovo’s Keyboard Pack.

The second-gen Tab P11 is built well and feels premium in your hands. The bezels might look a tad outdated, but they do help you hold the tablet without covering the display.

Speaking of the display, the 11.5-inch size is just perfect for long Netflix-binging sessions. Colour reproduction is good and so is the touch response. So, whether you’re catching up on the latest episode of a web series or reading the latest stories on Unboxed by Croma, the display doesn’t give you much to complain about.

One standout feature, which is not usually seen on tablets in this price range is the support for 120Hz refresh rate. This makes animations buttery smooth, which is amply visible when playing car racing or first-person shooter games on the tab.

Supporting the visuals are four speakers on the top and bottom corners of the tab. You get a full sound experience, and the volume levels can get pretty loud. Needless to say, the visual and auditory capabilities of the tablet come together to make this an entertainment champ.

Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 performance

The MediaTek Helio G99 performs exactly as you expect from a mid-range chipset. By that we mean the day-to-day tasks are handled with ease, as well as some level of multitasking. Apps open and shut with ease, and there’s barely any lag noticeable in the UI.

Though it is not an out-and-out gaming machine, you can still enjoy certain games like BGMI or Asphalt 9: Legends. That said, the tab is best suited for long hours of reading or watching OTT content.

One can level up the tab’s productivity chops by adding a couple of accessories. Lenovo’s Precision Pen 2 (sold separately at Rs 3,763) will let you sketch to your heart’s content or jot down thoughts for your next novel. Similarly, for on-the-go work Lenovo’s Keyboard Pack (sold separately at Rs 7,000) can be a really useful accessory. Attaching the keyboard also unlocks the productivity UI on the tab with split-windows, and more.

When on the move, you wouldn’t want to be at the mercy of a power socket, and the tab’s 7,500mAh battery ensures you aren’t. When used judiciously, the tablet’s battery can easily survive the day and more. And when you do need to recharge, the battery can be fully charged in just over two hours.

Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 cameras

Tablets aren’t really known for their cameras, and the Lenovo Tab P11 doesn’t break that tradition. The 13MP camera at the back is capable of shooting passable photos when the lighting is favourable. But as the lighting around you goes down, so does the quality of the photos. The 8MP camera upfront however fares better, especially when you use it for video chats.

Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 review verdict

Now comes the time where we tell you whether the Lenovo Tab P11 Gen 2 is worth your hard-earned money. At Rs 17,999, the tablet offers quite a lot especially if you’re looking for something that offers entertainment on the go. You get a gorgeous display with 120Hz refresh rate, loud speakers, and a chipset that is capable of handling all day-to-day tasks with relative ease.

Having said that, competition in this price range is quite stiff. Other tablets available include the realme Pad 2, Samsung Galaxy Tab A8, and the slightly more expensive OnePlus Pad Go to name a few.
