It is common for washing machines to be fussy, like any other home appliances. If yours is giving you a hard time, how do you reset it? Several minutes are needed to reset a washing machine after it has been disconnected from power. However, each washing machine may have its method. You may need to push a series of buttons to reset some washing machines, while others may have a reset button. Keep reading to explore the reset options for the washing machine.
Is there a reset button on a washing machine?
Most washing machines don’t have a reset button per se. But there is a process that comes closest – unplug it, wait a few minutes, and then power it on again. Called ‘Power Cycle’, this process can sometimes resolve your problem.
When to use the reset feature in the washing machine?
When you encounter an error code on your washing machine, you can take the help of the reset feature. When you reset the machine, all error codes in its memory will be cleared, but the error won’t be fixed immediately.
For instance, if your washer does not fill with water, it could be because it is not connected to the water line. In such a scenario, you will see an error code. A reset will temporarily fix the problem, but the scenario will reoccur since the actual problem with the water line was not fixed.
It is best not to try to clear the code again if you have already tried a reset. The unit’s error codes will be wiped out when it’s reset, making it more difficult for a technician to diagnose the problem. The error code can instead be resolved by requesting service.
How to reset your washing machine?
Even though most washing machines come with different reset methods, there is a general master method. For most washing machines, this method appears to work since it has been tried and tested.
1. Unplug the washing machine: First, unplug the machine from its wall outlet.
2. Reconnecting: After about a minute, replug the machine into the wall outlet, which will restart the washing machine.
3. Open and close the door: In about 12 seconds, open and close the washing machine door several times. Why? By doing this, all the components of your device will be reset. To check if your machine is working again, run a spin/run cycle without adding any clothes.
The majority of problems can be solved by unplugging and plugging in the machine again. It is important to remember that every washing machine is different. It might be possible to just flip the switch to reset, but on another, you might need to do something very specific.
Don’t forget to refer to the user manual of the manufacturer before performing any of the above steps.
