Intel Lunar Lake Laptop CPUs announced: Here’s what’s new

Copilot+ PCs are currently at the forefront of the AI PC race, and all Copilot+ PCs are currently powered by Qualcomm’s chipsets, namely the Snapdragon X Plus and X Elite. It was only a matter of time before players like AMD and Intel have their own answers to these next-gen AI-ready processors for laptop.

Enter the new Instagram Lunar Lake chipsets, also known as the Core Ultra 200V lineup. As per Intel and a report by The Verge, the new chipsets will offer the fastest CPU cores, along with the best AI performance on launch, which is set for September 24.

Intel claims the new chip will offer better battery life than competing chipsets from Qualcomm and AMD, but these are just claims for now. We will have to wait for the first machines with these chipsets to launch to know more concrete details on performance and battery life.

Better gaming performance may finally be a part of AI PCs

There’s something in here for gamers too. Intel also claims the new Core Ultra 9 288V will feature 68 per cent better frame rates than the Snapdragon X series chips. Of course, the Intel chips still being based on the more popular x86 architecture will also offer native support for more apps and games too – making this a better choice for gamers.

Intel also claims that the new chipsets are capable of offering 45fps on AAA games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales with its XeSS tech turned on.

For context, those are some amazing numbers keeping in mind that these are laptops (and ones without a dedicated GPU) offering very playable frame numbers comparable to those of older machines.

Other features here include Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 support, along with support for up to three 4K external monitors at once. The report also points out that the new chips will max out at eight CPU and GPU cores, and a maximum of 32GB RAM, so it doesn’t seem like there’s a way to add more RAM than this to Lunar Lake laptops. Note that this has not been confirmed directly by Intel.
