Instagram will now let you add a song to your profile

Why should Reels and Stories have all the fun?

Instagram will now let you add a song to your profile

Instagram has slowly been adding the ability to blend music with your content for years now – a move that is part of the platform’s shift from static photographs. Both Reels and Instagram Stories can today be supplemented with some music, adding a whole new dimension and flair to your stories.

Now, this is coming to your profile too, because Instagram just announced the ability to add music to your profile, similar to the Anthem feature on Tinder, or profile songs on MySpace from decades ago.

Instagram Profile song feature: What we know

Once the feature goes live on your smartphone, you will be able to add a song from Instagram’s library of licensed music to your profile. This song will play when someone visits your page, and will also show up right under the bio text.

To add a song, users will first have to check if their Instagram app is updated to the latest version. They can do this by checking the Instagram app page on the Play Store on Android phones and the App Store on iPhones.

If the app is updated, the feature can be implemented by heading to your profile and clicking on the “edit profile” button. You can then follow on-screen instructions to find a song of your choice to the profile page.

Note that only extracts of up to 30 seconds of a song can currently be added to a profile, which means you cannot make someone to listen to all of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody as they go through your feed. Well, not yet, at least.

Instagram is announcing the feature via artist Sabrina Carpenter’s Instagram page, where the artist’s latest song called ‘Taste’ will be added to her profile page. Until the song’s release, Carpenter’s page will be the only official way to listen to an extract of the track.

The addition is not the only change Instagram is making to your profile. In other news, the platform has also been testing a new vertical profile grid where all your posts could ditch the signature square Instagram look for a more 4:3 frame.
