Remember that meme someone shared with you on Instagram? But do you remember who shared it with you in which chat or whether you sent it yourself? This is a common headache when you have to look for something specific that was shared with you or something you shared with your connections.
Since sharing content has become the most common way to interact, Instagram seems to be working on a solution to this problem. Here’s what we know so far.
Instagram Social Library
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri observed that friends would post a lot more to stories, and send DMs than posting on the Feed. While people are still talking to each other via DM, sharing interesting or funny posts is now well integrated into our interactive behaviour so much so that it is likely a more dominant element.
Rather than exchanging updates about their lives, sharing memes is a form of communication that many users now prefer. This connection has facilitated a new wave of social media use which has led to connections based on popular posts. As a result of its increase in recommended posts, more users have started to share them with their friends and close friends.
Instagram is working on collating all the memes, reels, and videos shared and organising them in a way so that it is easy to find them again. The new ‘Social Library’ element would list all of the posts that you have reshared, liked, or bookmarked in the app.

Based on the post shared by developer Alessandro Paluzzi, the content will then be filtered into lists to ease the process of looking for a specific meme or reel. A magnifying glass in the corner of the screenshot suggests that this content will be searchable, too.
There is no word on when this element will be made live for users to implement it.
