Instagram tests new feature that lets you reset your recommended posts

In recent rimes, Instagram has been working towards making the platform safer and more enjoyable for teenagers. Since they spent a considerable amount of time on social media platforms daily, Instagram is now also taking steps to showcase age-appropriate and positive content for its young users.

The platform’s latest feature now allows users to reset their recommendations providing fresh content across Explore, Reels, and Feed.

Instagram reset: what’s new?

The reset tool will allow users to clear their personalised recommendations. Based on the user’s new interactions, Instagram will gradually set up content that align with their current interests. Users will also have the option to review and unfollow accounts that no longer attract them. The reset feature will work for users who are dissatisfied with their current feed.

Once the slate is wiped clean, users can inform Instagram if they like the content recommended on their Explore page by tapping the three dots in the corner of the post and selecting ‘Interested’.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri has issued a disclaimer stating that the app may initially be less engaging. He further mentioned that once you reset recommendations, the platform will consider the account brand new. This means the feature also provides Instagram and various brands with marketing opportunities to target these fresh accounts.

How to reset Instagram

The process to reset Instagram is easy and only requires a few taps.

Step 1: Tap on your profile picture to go to your Instagram profile.

Step 2: Tap on the three-line bar icon on the top right.

Step 3: Tap Content Preferences and then choose ‘Reset suggested content’

Step 4: Users can then review who they follow and after making desired changes tap on Confirm.

The Instagram reset feature will have a gradual global rollout. It will be made available to all users in the coming weeks.
