Instagram may soon let you add photos to a friend’s post

Instagram’s newest collaborative feature skips the post-vacay AirDrop sessions

Instagram may soon let you add photos to a friend’s post

Collaboration on posts is not exactly new to Instagram. The popular social media platform has already introduced co-authoring on posts, letting you and a friend take shared credit for a random dog-filter group selfie, or a wallpaper-worthy beach shot. However, it’s upcoming addition does this even better.

The platform is said to be testing a new collaborative carousel feature, which allows your friends to add photos to one of your Instagram posts. If that sounds scandalous, rest assured, all control on who can add to a post still remains with the original account. Here’s how it will actually work.

Once a user has posted a photo on Instagram (as a post, not a story), friends will see an option to ‘Add to post’ on the bottom left corner of the carousel. They can use this option to share more photos, which will now show up as part of the original post. However, all added media must first be approved by the account that made the original post.

Once they’re approved, added photos will simply stack up on the carousel of the original post. Users who add more media to a post will also get their usernames showing on top of the post next to the username of the original author.

Some aspects are still unclear, though. We still do not know if adding to a post will also show the entire post in your feed. There’s also no info on whether adding more media to a post affects maximum limit of 10 pictures on a post, which could now feel quite restrictive.

As mentioned above, the feature is still under testing, which means you’re unlikely to see it on your phone anytime soon. It is currently unclear which regions/batch of users have access to the feature, and when a wider rollout will take place.

Keep in mind that not all features that are tested make it to the final release. If you’re eagerly waiting for some collaborative posting with your buddies, keep an eye out on your smartphones for any new Instagram updates.
