Samsung may dominate the foldable phone market with the largest market share, but Huawei is the brand truly pushing boundaries. After unveiling the world’s first commercially available tri-fold device, the Mate XT, Huawei is back with another innovation – the Huawei Pura X.
The Huawei Pura X has just arrived in China. It’s a clamshell-style foldable phone, but unlike traditional options such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6 and Motorola Razr 50 Ultra, this one is a lot wider. It features a 16:10 aspect ratio compared to the narrower 22:9 aspect ratio of other clamshell foldables.
Why does this matter? Because it makes the phone more versatile – content can be comfortably viewed in both horizontal and vertical orientations.
Huawei Pura X: A design that makes sense
The Huawei Pura X’s wider form factor brings some real benefits. It allows for a larger, more functional cover screen and significantly increases the inner display’s usable area. It’s a smart and simple fix to one of the biggest issues clamshell foldables have faced – limited screen real estate.
On the outside, you get a 3.5-inch OLED cover display with a square 980 x 980 resolution. Flip it open, and you’re greeted by a large 6.3-inch OLED main display with a resolution of 2120 x 1320, a peak brightness of 2,500 nits, and a 16:10 aspect ratio. Whether you’re reading, watching videos, gaming, or multitasking, the experience is far more immersive.
Huawei Pura X: Features and specifications
The Pura X also doesn’t hold back on the camera front. It features a 50MP primary camera with OIS, a 40MP ultra-wide lens that doubles as a macro shooter, and an 8MP telephoto camera with OIS. On the front, there’s a 10.7MP selfie camera.
While Huawei hasn’t disclosed the SoC – keeping in line with its usual approach – the phone does pack 12GB RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. It’s powered by a sizable 4,720mAh battery with support for 66W wired and 40W wireless charging.
Running on HarmonyOS 5, the Pura X doesn’t support Google apps or services. It brings in Huawei’s own AI assistant called Xiaoyi, which is powered by the company’s in-house AI models alongside DeepSeek AI models.
Other notable features include an IPX8 rating for water resistance, dual-band Wi-Fi, NavIC support, NFC, and Bluetooth v5.2.
Huawei Pura X: Pricing and availability
The Huawei Pura X is priced at 7,499 Chinese Yuan, which is approximately Rs 89,184. While Huawei smartphones rarely launch in India, there’s a possibility this phone could make its way to global markets in the near future.
