Ever wondered what happens when Caviar, a luxury brand, collaborates with smartphone maker Huawei? You get what is now known as one of the most expensive phones in the world. Priced at $100,000, the special-edition Huawei Mate XT weighs exactly one kilogram and is made using 18k solid gold. But, of course, there’s a catch: You can’t purchase it; even if you have all the money in the world. Here’s why, along with everything else you need to know:
Huawei Mate XT special edition phone: What's there to know?
Not too long ago, Caviar unveiled the 24k gold-plated Huawei ‘Gold Dragon’ edition of its Mate XT smartphone. However, the company mentions how the Huawei Mate XT 18k is made using solid gold. Apart from being ‘super exclusive’ the smartphone is also custom-made and unavailable on the brand’s official website.
The smartphone’s back panel pays homage to the city of Longquan, where the art was said to have originated as early as the 12th century BCE. The phone has a flexible OLED display, which folds and unfolds in three different ways. It boasts a 6.4-inch screen in single-fold mode, a 7.9-inch screen in dual-fold mode, and a 10.2-inch screen in triple-fold mode.

The smartphone gets a 90Hz refresh rate for smooth visuals and a 50MP primary camera with OIS support. Secondarily, it features a 12-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with a 5.5x optical zoom along with OIS. On the display, it even gets an 8MP camera for video calls and selfies.
It packs a Kirin 9010 (7nm) chipset and ships with HarmonyOS 4.2. Lastly, the phone comes with a 5,600mAh battery pack and also supports 66W fast wired as well as 50W wireless charging.
Huawei Mate XT special edition: Price and availability
As mentioned above, the Huawei Mate XT special edition 18k solid gold phone is priced at $100,000 (roughly Rs 85,57,042). However, for now, the device is currently only reserved for one of Caviar’s affluent clients based in the US. The standard Mate XT Ultimate costs around $2,740 (roughly Rs 2,34,450), but is only available for purchase in China, as of today.
Alternatively, Caviar is also producing 88 limited-edition units of its 24k gold-plated Huawei Mate XT, which is priced at $17,340 (roughly Rs 14,83,579). While the company isn’t planning to replicate its 18k solid gold smartphone, they do offer other 18K gold phone models, including iPhones.

For those unaware, Caviar is best known for designing luxury phones that reflect wealth and personal style. While some purchase them for investment purposes, others are simply collectors who appreciate the craftsmanship and rarity.
The company also made headlines this year for launching the most expensive iPhone 16 Pro Max at $301,070, which is a whopping Rs 2,57,62,027! We don’t know about you, but at this price, we’re only hoping the selfies come out looking like Renaissance masterpieces!
