HTC Vive Focus Vision mixed reality headset arrives for gamers

HTC has officially announced its next mixed reality headset dubbed the HTC Vive Focus Vision. The latest headset comes with features like 5K resolution, colour passthrough, and PC tethering support. It can be used as a standalone device or tethered to your PC for high refresh rate viewing, making it suitable for gamers.

HTC Vive Focus Vision top features

The HTC Vive Focus Vision succeeds the Vive Focus Vision from last year. It comes with several improvements, starting with the colour passthrough feature and better PC tethering options. The latter makes it convenient for gamers as it will display content at up to 120Hz refresh rate.

Further, the headset has eye tracking which helps with foveated rendering, meaning that it will focus its resources on rendering only the elements that appear in your peripheral vision. The headset has a 5K resolution of 2448 x 2448 pixels per eye, with a field of view of 120-degree. It is powered by a Snapdragon XR2 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB.

Coming to the battery, it is said to offer 20 minutes of viewing session, but you can swap out the battery for a new one to continue using the headset.

But you can’t buy it

HTC Vive Focus Vision appears to be a great mixed reality headset on paper, however, you can’t get your hands on the device right now, as it’s only available in the global market. The headset is priced at $999 (about Rs 85,500), which is slightly cheaper than HTC’s Vive XR Elite headset priced at $1,099 (about Rs 91,900).
