Picture-in-picture mode might not be the most talked about feature, but it’s incredibly useful for multitasking during Google Meet calls. Basically, it lets you keep a small, movable window on top of everything else on your screen. It’s a common feature in most video conferencing apps, and Google Meet gets it too.
Using picture-in-picture can boost your productivity by letting you keep an eye on the meeting while working on other tasks, taking notes, or checking documents. So, to help you make the most of it, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use picture-in-picture with Google Meet.
How to use picture-in-picture with Google Meet
Using picture-in-picture with Google Meet is pretty straightforward, but it’s only available on Google Chrome for desktops or laptops. As mentioned earlier, this feature lets you display a small, movable version of your Google Meet interface that stays on top of any other content you’re viewing.

It’s a great way to stay engaged in a meeting while switching to different tabs or windows. You can use picture-in-picture mode to look at meeting-related documents, take notes, or just multitask while you’re on the call.
Steps to use picture-in-picture mode in Google Meet
1. First, start a meeting on Google Meet, then click on ‘More options’ at the bottom.
2. Select ‘Open picture-in-picture’
3. A smaller version of your meeting will pop up in the bottom right. To move it, drag it from the top of the window. To resize it, drag the edges.
4. You can switch between tabs, windows, or apps, and your mini-meeting window will stay visible.
5. To close picture-in-picture mode, click ‘Back to tab’ in the top right of the small window.
When you exit picture-in-picture, you’ll return to your main meeting tab but still be in the meeting. To end the meeting, simply click ‘Hang up.’ Also, avoid maximising other windows while in picture-in-picture mode, or it might hide your picture-in-picture window.
What features can you use with picture-in-picture in Google Meet?
Besides letting you easily multitask and get the most out of your meetings, picture-in-picture mode also allows you to control several key features. When using picture-in-picture mode on Google Meet, you can turn your camera and mic on and off, raise your hand, send and read in-meeting messages, and view your presentation as others see it.
However, bear in mind that you can’t start a presentation while in picture-in-picture mode, as you will need to start a presentation before. You can also turn captions on and off and exit the call while in picture-in-picture. To access other Meet features, simply click the ‘Back to tab’ option at the top right of the small Meet window.
By leveraging picture-in-picture on Google Meet, you can ensure you’re able to boost your productivity like never before.
