It has become extremely easy to capture high-quality videos on our smartphones, but editing or cleaning them up remains a chore. While our smartphones have become powerful and there are many feature-rich video editing apps, they are not for everyone. Google knows this, and with the launch of its Pixel 8 lineup, the search giant introduced Audio Magic Eraser, which made it easier than ever to clean up videos on Google’s Pixel phones.
As the name implies, Audio Magic Eraser is all about AI wizardry that builds on the Magic Eraser introduced to edit photos earlier. It currently works with Pixel 8 and later and the feature can separate out the different sources of sound in a video clip. If you are wondering what Audio Magic Eraser is and how to use it on Pixel phones then you have come to the right place.
Audio Magic Eraser: What is it and which Pixel phones support it
The idea behind Audio Magic Eraser is to help Pixel phone users separate different sources of audio in a video clip using Google‘s AI algorithms. With Audio Magic Eraser, you can identify different sounds in your video, remove background noise from videos and even enhance voice clarity.

The feature works with any video saved to your Pixel phone or your Google Drive, meaning you can use this feature to clean videos shot on other devices. The Audio Magic Eraser is a relatively exclusive feature since it is available on a small set of Pixel devices. Here’s a list of Pixel phones that support Audio Magic Eraser right now:
How to use Audio Magic Eraser on Pixel phones
If you have a Pixel 8 or newer Pixel phone then here are the steps you need to follow to use Audio Magic Eraser.
- Step 1: Open Google Photos on your Pixel phone.
- Step 2: Select the video you would like to edit.
- Step 3: Once you have opened the video, click on the edit button at the bottom of the screen.
- Step 4: Now scroll through the editing options till you find the Audio tab. Select it.
- Step 5: Next, choose the Audio Eraser option and wait for your phone to analyse the audio in your video. Depending on the length of your video, this might take a few minutes.
- Step 6: Once the tool identifies different sounds, you can adjust the audio by using the Auto or Manual option. The auto option allows Google’s AI to automatically reduce background noise while the manual option hands control to the user allowing them to choose the music or noise button and gradually change the sound. As you edit or make changes, you can click on the Play button to hear the difference.
- Step 7: Tap Save copy to keep your edited video.
Audio Magic Eraser is a great tool for quickly fixing your video or removing background noise from your video. However, its effectiveness depends on the quality of sound present in the original video. If there is a clear distinction between the sounds then the result is better, and for the best result, we recommend experimenting with different settings. Don’t forget to preview your changes and save the video once you like the adjustments.
