How to setup voicemail on an iPhone

How many times have you tried reaching out to a friend or family member only to meet the familiar dial tone? Countless times, we’re sure. After all, no one really has the time to be on call when they’re hustling. But voicemails are like little pigeons carrying digital messages in today’s times.

Voicemails will do your job by letting you record a message and send it to the receiver. So, whether you want to whisper something to your friend, send love to your partner, or surprise someone with news, voicemails can convey your message even when the receiver’s phone is unreachable.

Setting up a voicemail on an iPhone isn’t a very time-consuming task; with a few steps, you are good to go. However, not all carriers support voicemail. Ensure to check with your network provider first to start the process and enjoy this service.

Types of voicemails on your iPhone

Apart from simply being a voice message in your inbox, your iPhone lets you choose between a couple of formats. These can help you transcript the message better and even allow you to see the context without having to hear it through. Here’s what they are:

Visual Voicemail: A visual voicemail provides a transcripted version of the recorded message so you can quickly read through it for the receiver.

Live Voicemail: A live voicemail is supported in iOS 17, which lets you view the message when it is being recorded so you can decide whether or not to answer the call.

Steps to setup voicemail on iPhone

Before your contacts can reach you on voicemail, you might need to set it up on your iPhone. Here are a few simple steps you can follow; check them out below:

Step 1: The very first thing that you need to do is go to the phone application of your iPhone. The phone app on the iPhone is a green colour icon where you can make calls, view contacts and call details, and access voicemail.

Step 2: In your phone app, you will see a voicemail icon in the lower right corner. Tap on the voicemail icon to set it up. If tapping the icon initiates a call, your carrier doesn’t support the voicemail option.

Step 3: Once you tap on the voicemail option of the phone app, you will see a Set Up Now button. Click on it to start using the voicemail service. After setup, your voicemail log will appear here.

Remember: If the Set Up Now option doesn’t appear, the voicemail on your iPhone is already set up.

Step 4: After clicking on the Set Up Now button, you will be prompted to create a password. Create an easy-to-remember password, and in case you forget, you can create another one from Settings. Type the password again to confirm and click on Done.

In case you do not like the recorded message, you can cancel it by tapping Cancel and record a new one by selecting Custom. When you are finished recording your message, tap on Done.

So, set up the voicemail and start reaching out to friends and family even when they are busy.
