How to send photos and videos as document in WhatsApp from an iPhone

WhatsApp usually compresses photos and videos to save data usage, and while this is certainly good for most times, there can be times when you need to send a high-resolution image or an uncompressed video. Sending them as documents bypasses compression, allowing you to send high-resolution files. So, here’s a simple guide on how to send photos and videos as documents on your iOS device with WhatsApp:

1. Update WhatsApp

Before you begin sending high-quality images, make sure you have the latest version of WhatsApp installed. To update the app, simply open the App Store and search for WhatsApp. If an update is available, tap “Update.”

2. Navigate to the Photos app

Now, open the Photos app on your iPhone and select the image that you want to send in document form.

3. Upload and save the image in document format

Tap on the upload option at the bottom left corner and then the ‘Save to Files’ option. Now select ‘On My iPhone’ option. The picture is now saved as a document.

4. Open the Chat

Launch WhatsApp and navigate to the chat where you want to send the photo or video.

5. Access Document Sharing

Tap the “+” icon in the bottom left corner of the chat window (next to the text box). From the menu that pops up, choose “Document.”

6. Choose the Photo or Video

In the “Documents” section, you’ll see an option titled “Choose Photo or Video.” Tap on this to access your iPhone’s media library.

7. Select and Send

Browse your Photos app and select the photo or video you want to send. You can choose multiple photos or videos at once. Once you’ve selected your media, tap “Send” in the bottom right corner.

That’s it! WhatsApp will send your photos and videos as documents, preserving their original quality. The recipient will see a paperclip icon next to the document file name, implying it’s not a standard photo or video. They can then tap on the document to download and view the media. So, the next time you want to share high-quality photos and videos via WhatsApp, skip the standard media options and send them as documents!
