Forgetting your Apple Watch home is definitely one thing, but we’re talking about forgetting your smartwatch’s passcode. As crucial as your pattern or PIN lock, the passcode on your Apple Watch is an essential security feature that protects your device from being accessed when off your wrist. But there isn’t a lot you can do once you lose the password to your smartwatch. If you’re struggling with how to go about it, below are some steps to help you get started at resetting your Apple Watch.
Forgot your Apple Watch passcode – what's next?
From restarting an old Apple Watch to accidentally misplacing your passcode, there are plenty of reasons you could have forgotten yours. But there are a few straightforward ways to get it up and running again (with or without an iPhone). Here’s what you have to do:
Without an iPhone
The only way to reset your Apple Watch passcode is by resetting it to its original factory settings. But if you’re not in the range of a working iPhone, you can begin with the following steps:
Step 1: Connect your Apple Watch to its charger and ensure it is switched on.
Step 2: Press and hold the button on the side until a menu appears with the power icon. You can then let go of the button. If you’re using an Apple Watch Ultra, be sure not to press the Action Button; otherwise, it will override the function.

Step 3: Press the Digital Crown on your Apple Watch until you see the option to Erase All Content and Settings.
Step 4: Tap on the Reset option twice to confirm your selection. Wait for your Apple Watch to complete the resetting process. Once through, you can begin repairing it with your iPhone and add a new passcode when you’re done.
It is crucial to note that once you erase your Apple Watch, the backup of your data will be safely stored on your paired iPhone.
With an iPhone
If you’re fortunate enough to be around your iPhone, you can use it to reset your Apple Watch remotely. Here’s how to go about it:
Step 1: Make sure your Apple Watch and iPhone are in close proximity to each other. Then, open the Watch app on your device.
Step 2: Tap on My Watch icon mentioned at the bottom of your page.
Step 3: Further, click on General Settings.
Step 4: Once you scroll all the way down, you will find an option to reset your Apple Watch.
Step 5: Tap on Erase Apple Watch Content and Settings, and a menu should appear with the same message.
Step 6: Once you tap on it, you might be required to put in your Apple ID and password as an additional step.
Step 7: Once this process is through, you can simply repair it with your iPhone and reset your Apple Watch with a new passcode.
Note that if you use a Cellular + GPS Apple Watch variant, you will need to follow an additional step that allows you to either retain or do away with your current Cellular Plan. Based on what you prefer, your iPhone will either create a backup or erase the existing plan.
These simple steps can help you regain access to your Apple Watch. However, whether or not you’re good at remembering passwords, it is always a good idea to keep your data backed up at all times!
