Robot vacuum cleaners have made cleaning infinitely simpler. These gadgets can make their way into all sorts of nooks and crannies in your homes, cleaning up anything from dust to spills and everything in between. All this without you having to follow the cleaner around.
To ensure you get the most out of these robot vacuum cleaners, here are a few things you should consider to make your home suitable for them.
Tips and tricks to prepare your home for a robotic vacuum cleaner
1. Adjust the dock
The dock (the home base and charging station of the robot cleaner) needs to be set up in a way that allows the vacuum cleaner to move in and out smoothly. Ideally, you’ll need 1.5 to 3 feet of space for the dock. Oh and, ensure it’s not near a flight of stairs, so the vacuum cleaner doesn’t accidentally fall off.
2. Avoid leaving small objects lying around
Tidy up your floors, to keep your robot vacuum functional for a long time. Small or sharp objects may get caught in the brushes or wheels of the cleaner, which could cause it to get stuck or even be damaged. Pick up your clothes or shoes off the floor as well, so that they do not get in its way.
3. Beware of spilt liquids
Liquids are not exactly a robot vacuum cleaner’s best friend. While the wet robot vacuum cleaners wipe up these spills immaculately, many models (p.s. the dry ones) aren’t built to clean up moisture. The dust and debris mixed with a liquid while cleaning might end up creating a larger mess.
Wipe off any spilt water or other messes before you switch on your dry vacuum cleaners. Keep your bathrooms locked, and your potted plants in a spot where the robot can’t reach them, to avoid accidents.
4. Roll up the carpets and mats for later
Your vacuum cleaner can easily get stuck because of carpets and mats, especially if your rugs have tassels. To avoid damage to your vacuum cleaner (or the rugs), consider rolling them up before a cleaning session.
