Instagram made videos its focus years ago, and a number of features that encourage users to take the video approach more and more have since been released. You can already add videos to posts as well as your Instagram stories, but the app’s latest feature allows you to add videos to your Notes as well.
A new update to Instagram’s Notes feature allows users to add short clips of themselves for 24 hours, visible to anyone who has access to your notes. Unlike Stories with videos, Video Notes can only be up to 2 seconds long, and can only be recorded from the front camera. Video Notes also don’t support picking up a video from your gallery, so clips from the stock camera app on your smartphones or other apps won’t be supported.
How to share video notes on Instagram
Open Instagram and head into your inbox. You can do this by tapping on the inbox icon on the top-right of the main page, or simply swiping left. Above your messages, you will see Notes by friends as well as your own profile icon.

Tap on your profile icon and click the camera button on top of your photo. This should open up your front camera. You can now tap on the record button to quickly record a 2-second video. You can even discard and re-record if you don’t like the result.
Once satisfied with the video, you can add text and post the same. Your friends can now see your Video Note and can reply with text, audio, photo, stickers, GIFs and even videos of their own. Do note that replying with media will take the conversation to the user’s DM.
That’s how you can use Instagram’s Video Notes feature in a few simple steps. Still prefer the longer Instagram Reels? Feel free to check out our list of top Instagram Reels tips and tricks to up your Reels game.
