How to pin one or more messages on WhatsApp group chats

WhatsApp is about to get even better for family and office groups, as well as personal chats

In the parts of the world where WhatsApp is popular, WhatsApp Groups are the equivalent of the school notice board. From office groups for work coordination and vacation groups for checklists to family groups for the good morning messages, festive wishes and accidentally sent inappropriate memes, WhatsApp groups are everywhere, and they’re very useful.

However, with a large number of members, most of which will almost always be quick to react to important messages, one of WhatsApp’s biggest problems in groups is important messages being sent up and away, making them easy-to-miss for members who pick up their smartphones after a while. Thankfully, the Meta-owned instant messaging app is working on a fix for this.

As per WABetaInfo, WhatsApp Beta has a new feature that will allow the pinning of one or more important messages in a group or personal chat. This will keep the message(s) pinned on top for users so it cannot be missed. With multiple pinned messages, WhatsApp will also let group members go through all important texts in a row.

How to pin multiple messages on WhatsApp groups and chats

To pin one or more messages, simply open WhatsApp and navigate to the relevant chat window. Find the message you want to pin, or simply type it out. You can now long press on the message to see additional options. Find the option to ‘Pin’ a message and tap on it to pin the message.

On group chats, the option to ‘Pin’ a message may be hidden behind the ‘More’ option, so be sure to check that too. To pin multiple messages, simply follow the same process with any other messages you want to pin and you’re good to go. Members will now be able to check all the pinned messages whenever they open the personal/group chat.

All messages you pin will also allow you to choose how long a message stays pinned for. The options you have are 24 hours, seven days or 30 days. As of now, there is no option to indefinitely pin a message, but it may be something we see added later on. Multiple pinned messages can also each have their own pinned duration. Pinned messages will also be visible on WhatsApp Web.

Do note that the pinning feature will only be available to you right now if you’re on the latest WhatsApp beta version. If not, you must wait for the feature to come to the stable channel before you can begin pinning messages.

When will you get the feature?

The WhatsApp message-pinning feature is currently in beta, and it might be a few weeks before those on the stable channel can see the feature on their phones. If you’re on the WhatsApp Beta program, you can find the feature with WhatsApp beta 23.25.79 update (for iPhones) and WhatsApp Beta 2.23.26.9 (for Android phones).
