The Fire TV Stick comes with a bundled Bluetooth-enabled remote control. If you are using the Fire TV Stick for the first time, you will need to pair it with the remote control to easily access its various functions. If your Fire TV Stick is old and you have an unresponsive remote control, you will still need to go through the pairing process. Whether you are pairing a new remote or a replacement remote, this guide will help you understand how to get it done easily.
Pairing a new remote with the Fire TV Stick
Make sure to insert fresh batteries before pairing a new remote. Follow these steps to manually pair a remote with your Fire TV Stick.

1. Connect the Fire TV Stick to the TV and turn it on.
2. Choose the correct input and keep the remote within 10 feet of the TV.
3. Long press the Home button on the remote for 10 seconds.
4. The LED light on the remote will start blinking.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions and complete the pairing process.
Try using a different pair of fresh batteries to see if the Fire TV Stick detects your remote. If it does not, you can try resetting the remote manually. Here’s how you can reset the Fire TV Stick remote:

1. Unplug your Fire TV Stick from the TV and wait for a minute.
2. On the remote, press and hold the Left, Menu, and Back buttons simultaneously for 10 to 12 seconds.
3. Remove the batteries from the remote.
4. Plug in the Fire TV. Stick to the TV and wait for a minute.
5. Put the batteries back into the remote.
6. Press and hold the Home button on the remote for about 10 seconds to check whether the Fire TV Stick detects it.
7. If the remote is successfully paired, it will show an on-screen confirmation message like “New Remote Connected” or something similar.
Pairing a replacement remote
If your existing remote is paired and is partially working, you can do the following steps to add a replacement battery:
1. Go to Settings on your Fire TV Stick.
2. Select Controllers & Bluetooth Devices.
3. Choose Amazon TV Remotes.
4. Tap on Add New Remote.
5. Press and hold the Home button on the remote for around 10 seconds to see whether the Fire TV Stick detects it.
6. If the pairing is successful, it will show an on-screen confirmation message like “New Remote Connected” or something similar.
Alternatively, you can use the Fire TV app to pair a replacement remote as follows:
1. Download and install the Fire TV app on your iOS or Android phone through the official app store.
2. Make sure that your Fire TV Stick and smartphone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
3. Launch the Fire TV app and log in to your Amazon account that’s associated with the Fire TV Stick.
4. The app will show a virtual remote interface for controlling the Fire TV Stick.
5. Go to Settings > Controllers & Bluetooth Devices > Amazon Fire TV Remotes > Add New Remote.
6. Press and hold the Home button on your new or replacement Fire TV remote for about 10 seconds.
7. Once paired, a message confirming successful pairing will show on the screen.

If your TV supports HDMI-CEC (Consumer Electronics Control), you might be able to navigate your Fire TV Stick menus using your TV’s remote. Check your TV settings for HDMI-CEC options. Additionally, remember that the Fire TV Stick supports pairing up to seven remotes, giving you multiple, convenient control options.
