How to lock or unlock profiles on Netflix

Did you know that Netflix gives all its users an option to lock their profiles with a pin? This is a great option to have in large households or for people who truly value the sanctity of their watch history. A locked profile is a great way to keep nosy kids or roommates away from your account, and for keeping people from accidentally logging into your profile and unintentionally ruining your recommendations.

When locked, a user will need to enter a 4-digit pin to access the profile. You can lock and unlock your profile from either the Netflix app on your iOS or Android device, or from a web browser on any platform.

How to lock or unlock your Netflix profile from a web browser

– First head to your Netflix account page. Note that this is not your regular Netflix login page and instead a separate page that manages your Netflix account, payments, and more.

– Scroll down to the ‘Profile and Parental Controls’ section and click on the downward facing arrow on the right.

– Click ‘Change’ to the right of the Profile Lock setting. The status of the Profile Lock is visible under the icon.

– Enter your account password in the new page that opens. Hit ‘Continue’.

– To lock or unlock the profile, click on the ‘Require a PIN to access X’s profile.’ Checkbox. If the box is already checked, the profile is locked. If it’s unchecked, the profile is unlocked. Here, X is your username.

– If you’ve checked the box to lock your profile, you will be prompted to enter a 4-digit PIN. Enter a memorable PIN and hit Save.

– Additionally, you can click on the ‘Require X’s PIN to add new profiles.’ Checkbox to prevent people from adding more profiles.

– Once you hit save, your profile is now locked or unlocked depending on whether you’ve checked or unchecked the box.

You can repeat this process for all profiles associated with your account.

How to lock or unlock your Netflix profile from an iOS or Android app

– Open the Netflix app.

– At the profile page, tap on ‘Edit’ at the top-right corner of the window.

– Tap on the profile you want to lock or unlock.

– Scroll down to ‘Profile Lock’ and tap on it.

– Tap ‘Create a Profile Lock’.

– Enter your Netflix account password when prompted. Tap OK once done. You can also tap ‘Forgot Your Password’ if you don’t remember your password.

– Enter a 4-digit PIN when prompted.

– Your profile is now locked.

To unlock a profile

– Open the Netflix app.

– At the profile page, tap on ‘Edit’ at the top-right corner of the window.

– Tap on the profile you want to lock or unlock.

– Scroll down to ‘Profile Lock’ and tap on it.

– Tap ‘Edit Pin’ to change the pin or tap ‘Delete Profile Lock’ to delete it.

– Netflix will confirm whether you want to delete the profile lock. Hit ‘Yes’ to delete it.

– Your profile is now unlocked.

If you forgot your PIN, Netflix allows you to reset the Profile Lock PIN via a web browser. Simply follow the procedure listed above for locking your profile via the web browser to recover a lost PIN.

Locking your Netflix profile with a PIN is a great way to ensure that nobody else can interfere with your profile, mess up your recommendations, or ruin the progression of the shows you’re watching.
