How to hide likes on your Instagram posts

In an attempt to make users’ experience more pleasant where they can focus on the content rather than the popularity of the content, Instagram rolled out the ability for users to hide the ‘like and view counts.’

It doesn’t matter if your account is public or private, you can hide the number of likes from your followers. There are options in place that allow you to hide the number of shares of your post. Here’s how to enable it.

Instagram: How to hide likes

Hiding the likes involves a setting change. You can make the changes from a web browser or on your smartphone. This can be done in two ways; one way is to hide the likes after a post has been published and the other is by enabling the setting while posting anything new.

All you need to do is go to the post for which you wish to hide the number of likes, click on the three lines in the upper right corner, and head to Settings. There is an option called ‘Like and share counts’. You need to tap on that and turn on the toggle button to ‘Hide like and share counts.’

If you are about to share a new post and feel like hiding the number of likes, you need to check the page where you write your captions and tag accounts. On this page, scroll down and select ‘Advanced Settings’. This provides the option to ‘Hide Like and View Counts on This Post’. By doing this, the number of likes and shares won’t be visible to your followers.

In case you wish to hide likes on an Instagram post later on, scroll to the post you wish to hide likes on. Then, tap the three gray dots in the right-hand corner of the post and select ‘Hide Like Count’. Once this setting is set, the post will showcase ‘like by one user and others’, and the numbers will disappear.

With Instagram likes often feeling like a measure of self-worth, following these easy steps can help you prioritise your well-being. It is important to note that this feature is entirely optional and can be changed at a later date.
