How to hide likes on Facebook and Instagram

Controlling who sees your likes

The rise of social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram, fueling influencer culture, has completely transformed how we share and consume content. However, there can be times when you just want to share freely without the pressure of likes. Hiding likes or comments on your posts can be a way to shift the focus and can help reduce the pressure to perform and the anxiety associated with social comparison.

It allows you to create content you’re passionate about and focus back on what truly matters: expressing yourself, engaging with friends, and enjoying the platform for what it is, instead of getting caught up in the pursuit of high numbers and metrics. So, to take control of your social media presence and enhance your online privacy, here’s how you can easily hide likes on Facebook and Instagram.

How to hide likes on Facebook and Instagram

Meta owns Instagram and Facebook and both social media platforms offer a range of options to hide your reactions or likes on your posts. However, since the company doesn’t heavily promote these privacy options, you might want to know where to find them. Here’s how you can easily hide likes on Facebook and Instagram:

Hiding likes on Instagram

There are several ways to hide likes on Instagram, including:

1. For your own posts

If you want to hide likes on one of your specific Instagram posts, simply find the post and tap on the three-dot menu above the post. Then, select “Hide like count” from the menu and this will immediately hide the number of likes on the post. However, keep in mind that this won’t stop other people and your followers from being able to like the post.

2. For other people’s posts

To stop seeing likes on other people’s Instagram posts, simply go to your Instagram profile. Then, tap the three lines menu and hit Settings & Privacy. In the Settings & Privacy section, select Like Count and use the Hide Like Count toggle to hide the likes.

3. As you share a post

You can also hide the like count when creating a new post. To do so, tap on Advanced Settings. Then, toggle “Hide likes and view counts on this post” to “On.” Now, go back and hit the “Share” button to publish your post without the like counter.

Hiding likes on Facebook

Like Instagram, Facebook also offers options to manage reactions to posts and page likes for privacy reasons. Here’s how you can control these settings:

1. Hide reactions on Facebook posts

To hide reactions on your Facebook posts, open the Facebook app, tap the three-line menu, and click on the gear icon for Settings & Privacy. In the Preferences section, tap on Reaction Preferences. Here, you can use the toggles for “On posts from others” and “On your posts” to hide reactions you don’t want to see.

2. Hide Facebook page likes

Your liked Facebook pages can affect what shows up on your feed, but sometimes you might want to keep that information to yourself. So, to hide your Facebook page likes, go to your profile in the Facebook app and tap the three dots menu. Then, select Follow settings and tap “Who can see the people, Pages, and lists you follow” Choose “Only me” by tapping the “See more” option to keep your liked pages private. That way, only you will be able to see your liked pages.

With these steps, you should be able to hide likes on both Facebook and Instagram effectively. Don’t forget to check out Unboxed by Croma for other handy social media tips and tricks.
