Spotify is one of the most popular music streaming apps available today, and with good reason. With a wide selection of music to choose from, including regional favourites, and even podcasts, the library is unmatched. Better yet, Spotify boasts of one of the most robust recommendation engines in the music streaming space.

Spotify offers a free tier to get you started, but if you want an ad-free experience, not to mention the ability to download songs and carry them with you when travelling, you’ll need subscribe to one of the premium plans. Before you subscribe, you can try a Premium trial to experience what Spotify Premium has to offer.

What are the different Spotify Premium plans?

All premium plans offer the same features, i.e. accessibility abroad, ad-free listening, downloadable music, and higher quality streaming, but prices vary based on whether you want a plan just for yourself or for you and a friend or even for a family. Spotify also offers a discounted student plan.

1. Premium Mini: Available only on mobile, this plan gives you access to Premium features for one day for Rs 7. Unlike the other premium plans, you will be restricted to 30 downloads and basic audio quality. 

2. Premium Individual: This plan gives one user, you, access to all Premium features. Available for Rs 119 for two months, then it goes up to Rs 119/month. 

3. Premium Student: Students get 50% off for up to four years, but the plan needs to be renewed every year. Available at Rs 59 for two months, then Rs 59/month. 

4. Premium Duo: A discounted premium plan for two people living together. This plan is available at Rs 149 for two months, then Rs 149/month. 

5. Premium Family: A discounted premium plan for a family of up to six members. One person pays for and controls access. Available for Rs 179 for two months, then at Rs 179/month. 

You can subscribe to any of these plans on a monthly or pay at once for a whole year. 

How to get Spotify Premium

Whether you use Spotify via their website or smartphone app, you can buy a Premium plan. Here’s how:

From the website

The simplest way to get Spotify Premium is to get it from the Spotify website. Go through the plans and pick one that suits you by clicking on the ‘Buy xx plan’ icon. Create a new Spotify account by following the instructions on screen, or sign into an existing account.

Once the account is verified, pick a payment method and pay for the plan. Premium is activated once the payment is processed.

From an iOS or Android device

You cannot subscribe to Spotify Premium via the official iOS or Android apps. Instead, you’ll need to head to the Spotify website via your mobile browser and subscribe via the steps outlined above.

If you listen to a lot of music, subscribing to Spotify Premium is a no-brainer. it’s easily one of the best deals in music, and at just Rs 119/month, it’s very reasonably priced indeed.
