How to export Copilot conversations into Word, PDF and texts

Formerly called Bing Chat, Copilot is now one of the most advanced conversational AI engines out there

How to export Copilot conversations into Word, PDF and texts

Bing Chat, now known as Microsoft Copilot, is a powerful generative AI tool that leverages parts of OpenAI’s ChatGPT to deliver Microsoft’s version of a conversational generative AI experience. If you’ve used ChatGPT, then Microsoft Copilot should feel very familiar as it offers a similar UI.

Copilot features

Copilot differs from vanilla ChatGPT in two ways. Firstly, it can use multiple AI engines to respond, giving you the flexibility to use image generation as well as tools that help with cooking, fitness, vacation planning, and more. The second is that Copilot also leverages the power of the Bing search engine to help you browse the web on your smartphones, laptops or desktops and deliver results conversationally.

Another great feature of Copilot on the web is ‘Notebook’. This ideation tool works by asking for a prompt where you describe the idea or project you want to work on. Copilot then uses the various AI engines at its disposal to help you turn that idea into reality. This could be anything from a script for a video to an article to ideas for dinner, and so much more.

The best part is that all these conversations you have with Copilot, as well as the notes you save in ‘Notebook’ can be copied and saved with ease. In addition, you can save and export Copilot conversations or Notebook notes in several ways.

Copying a specific response

Any response that you want to save can be copied by simply clicking on the copy button. This saves the data to your clipboard, allowing you to paste it into an editing app of your choice. Both text and images can be copied in this manner, and Copilot will even save URLs and formatting for you.

Exporting to Word or PDF

You could also directly export Copilot responses to a Word doc, a PDF file, or a plaintext file. The Word doc is useful if you want an editable document with rich formatting, the PDF if you want a formatted document that can’t be edited, and the plaintext copy if you don’t particularly care about formatting and/or need to share the file with someone who doesn’t use Microsoft Word.

To export a snippet of a conversation, simply click the export button at the bottom of the response you liked and choose the format you prefer. The document will then be saved in a location of your choosing.

Sharing entire conversations

If you want to share a response or conversation via social media apps or even email, you’ll want to hit the share button instead. This button is under the response, next to the save and export buttons. Clicking on the share button will open a share window where you get a preview of what is being shared, a shareable URL that links to the exact conversation when opened, and the option to share the full conversation via email, Facebook, X, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Reddit, or to OneNote for later perusal.

Sharing to OneNote is especially convenient as you can have access to the entire conversation any time you choose.

Microsoft Copilot is a powerful AI tool that has a lot more going on under the hood than it might first appear. Unlike ChatGPT, Copilot’s deep integration into Windows and the web allows it to offer richer and more relevant responses, along with citations and search results. It’s a great tool that, if leveraged properly, can serve very well to enhance your workflows, creatives, or otherwise.
