How to delete your YouTube channel: A step-by-step guide

YouTube is arguably the biggest platform for user-generated content with 2.49 billion monthly active users. With a daily time spent of 48.7 minutes and 1 billion hours of YouTube videos per day being watched on TV, YouTube is an absolute juggernaut in the video streaming industry.

Google’s video-sharing platform is so popular that it has ignited a war between T-Series and PewDiePie while MrBeast has made the term altruism popular. However, YouTube is not for everyone and many creators have expressed the toll it takes to consistently create content for the platform.

If you are one of those content creators who wants to ditch the hustle of content creation on YouTube and delete your channel, then Google has made it relatively straightforward. Before we get to how to delete a YouTube channel, it is important to know that deleting your channel is an irreversible process. Here are the steps to delete your YouTube channel.

How to delete YouTube channel:

Open any web browser and navigate to www.youtube.com. Now, log in to the YouTube account associated with the channel you wish to delete. Scroll down on the YouTube homepage and find the Settings option on the left side. Click on it to proceed.

Navigate to the Account tab in the settings menu. Under the Your channel section, you will find the option to view advanced settings. Click on the Advanced Settings page and you will see a Delete channel link. Click on it. After you click on the Delete channel, you will be required to re-enter your account password for verification.

On the following page, you will be presented with two options: “I want to hide my content” or “I want to permanently delete my content.” Select the “I want to permanently delete my account” option to permanently delete your account.

A drop-down menu will appear that will list the items that will be permanently deleted or hidden. To proceed, check all the boxes to acknowledge the consequences, and then click the blue button that reads “Delete My Content.”

A pop-up confirmation box will appear that will ask you to verify your decision to delete your content. This step might ask you to re-enter your email address. Please make sure to enter accurate information. Click on the “Delete My Content” option once again to confirm your choice. After you click the final confirmation button, your YouTube channel will be permanently deleted.

How to delete YouTube channel using your Google account

You can also use your Google account to delete your YouTube channel. Here are the steps to delete your YouTube channel using your Google account.

Step 1: If you are looking to delete YouTube channel associated with a brand account then head to https://www.youtube.com/account and sign in if necessary. Now, click on See all my channels or create a new channel. Select a channel and then click on your profile icon, then Settings in the drop-down menu.  The next step would be to click View or change your account settings.

Step 2: If you want to delete the YouTube channel associated with your main account then head to https://myaccount.google.com/.

Step 3: If you are not signed into your Google Account then click Sign in in the top-right corner of the screen, then enter your email and password.If you are signed into your Google account, then you will see your Google account’s profile picture in the upper-right corner of the page.

Step 4: Scroll down and click the “Delete your account or services” option. Click the “Delete products” option that appears on the right side of the page. Now, enter your password if prompted to log into your Google account and then click NEXT below the password field.

Step 5: Navigate to the “YouTube” heading from the list of services page. Click on the “Trash” icon right next to the YouTube heading.

Re-enter your password and click NEXT below the password field. Click “I want to permanently delete my content”. Check the “The following will be permanently deleted” box at the bottom of the page.

Step 6: Click on the “DELETE MY CONTENT” blue button at the bottom of the page. The above step will prompt a pop-up window where you need to enter your channel name or email address. Click “DELETE MY CONTENT” in the bottom-right corner of the pop-up page. This will permanently delete your YouTube channel.

Regardless of which method you use, the above steps will help you delete your YouTube channel. The process of deleting your YouTube channel is irreversible and if you are only interested in taking a break from YouTube then you should choose the option to hide your channel instead.
