Browsing the web on your smartphones has become a ritual of sorts thanks to the convenience of not being chained to a desk. However, some may not be aware that these browsers will also save your visits and website activity as ‘history’.

Though web history can be helpful in personally keeping a track of the websites you’ve visited, it can fast become a privacy issue as well. Moreover, budget phones with limited storage and RAM, could slow down once the history list gets long. Fortunately, there’s a easy enough solution of clearing search history from your phone. Read on to find out.

Steps to delete search history on any Android phone

Here are some ways you can clear search history on the Google app or Chrome:

1. Deleting search history on the Google app

On your Android smartphone, open the Google app and tap the round profile image/name icon on the top-right corner. Tap the Search history option, which will give you a view of your web activity day-wise. You will see a delete button with a drop-down. Tap on the button and select the delete all time option.

If you want to keep erasing your history from time to time, select the Auto-delete option from the drop-down. This will give you a time range in which the history will get cleared automatically. This will take you to a screen where you need to select the activity you want to delete. Select the activity accordingly or check the Select All box to delete all activities. Click on Next.

After clicking on Next, you will go to a confirmation screen, which will ask you if you want to erase the history permanently. At the bottom of this page, tap Delete to clear your history and complete the process.

2. How to delete search history in Google Chrome

Open Chrome on your Android phone and tap the three dots present on the top right of your screen. Select History from the options. This will show your browsing data as per day and date.

Tap on Clear browsing data and ensure the Browsing history box is selected. Then, choose a time range from the drop-down and tap on Clear data at the bottom. To clear all your browsing history, select ‘All time’ from the drop-down.
