How to connect a laptop to a monitor?

In this post pandemic world, hybrid work culture has become the new norm. Most tech companies, startups, consultancy firms and management companies have shifted to this work culture. Working from home needs you to be efficient, and this might need more than just the basic equipments. For instance, your laptop’s screen might be too small to do all your work, and a bigger screen is just what you need. But instead of switching to a new desktop computer, did you know you can connect your laptop to a monitor? This would allow you to mirror your laptop’s content onto a bigger screen.

 

How to connect a laptop to a monitor?

The right cable! Yes, you read it correctly, a cable or a USB does the job of connecting your laptop to the monitor screen. It also depends on the type of PC that you have.

Connecting Windows laptop to a monitor

A USB or HDMI cable is ideal for connecting a Windows laptop to a monitor. Start your laptop and monitor after connecting them with the cable. Open Settings and search display settings. Click on “ease of display settings”.

After this, you will see a few more options ahead and then click on the “additional display” option. Here you will be shown two options out of which one is your PC desktop screen and one will be the monitor screen. Right tap on one of them and then click on “identify”.

The laptop screen will show you both the screens with numbering on it. Choose the monitor screen as the main one and right tap on it and choose “apply”.

Connecting a MacBook to a monitor

You can use a USB or Thunderbolt cable to connect a MacBook to a monitor. After properly securing the cable with both the devices, turn on your MacBook and click on the Apple logo. In the new tab so opened, click on “System Preferences”.

Now you will see an option of “display”, click on it. In the new window, choose the “Arrangement” tab. You will see two screens in the window already identified as Monitor screen and desktop screen. Choose the one you want to have the main display as and then right click on it and choose “mirror display”.

Connecting a laptop to a monitor is not too complicated, and all you need is the right cable. Happy multitasking!
