A guide to cleaning your headphones properly

How to clean your headphones

We use headphones to listen to music, make phone calls, watch videos, and much more. However, we often forget to clean them properly. This can lead to a build-up of dirt, dust, and earwax which can eventually cause the headphones to break down. Not only is this unpleasant for us, but it can also be dangerous for our health. In this article, we will give you a step-by-step guide on how you can clean your headphones properly.

Why do we need to clean our headphones?

It is important to clean our headphones for a number of reasons. Firstly, if we don’t clean them regularly, they can become a breeding ground for bacteria. This is because ear cups and headbands are usually made from materials that absorb sweat and oil from our skin. Over time, these build up and create an ideal environment for bacteria to multiply. In addition, dirt and dust can also accumulate on the surface, which can eventually lead to corrosion.

Secondly, cleaning our headphones helps to maintain their appearance and extend their lifespan. If we leave them uncleaned, they will gradually get stained and faded. Lastly, it is simply good hygiene practice to clean our headphones. We use them on a daily basis, so it makes sense to keep them as clean as possible.

Remove dirt and grime from exterior surfaces

Using a soft cloth dampened with either rubbing alcohol or white vinegar solution, gently wipe down any exterior surfaces such as ear cups and headbands where dirt may be present. Make sure not to apply too much pressure when wiping so as not to scratch the surface of your headphones. If there are stubborn spots remaining after wiping down these areas then try using a cotton swab dipped in the same solution for more precise cleaning action.

Disinfect ear pads and cushions

For this step, it is best to remove any cushions or pads before proceeding further. This way they can be washed separately without risking damaging other parts of your headphone set-up while doing so.

Once removed, soak them briefly in warm water mixed with some mild detergent before rinsing thoroughly under running tap water until no suds remain visible anymore. Let them dry completely before reattaching them back onto the headset frame again afterwards.

Reassemble headphone

Once all the pieces have been cleaned properly, put everything together again following the original assembly instructions provided by the manufacturer. Check functionality one last time making sure audio output sounds is clear and crisp without distortion noise interference issues being detected during a playback session.

Once complete, your headphones should be as good as new. Enjoy your clean and clear sound experience. Make sure to take care of your headphones and keep them clean for the best auditory experience. Replace any parts that are worn or damaged for optimal audio performance. Check for any loose connections or wires for a secure fit. Replace the ear cushions every few months for optimal comfort.
