How to change the language in Google’s Search app

The Google Search app is our go-to for most of our queries day in and day out, owing to its ease of access. However, the application’s USP doesn’t lie only its ease of use, though.

It’s also the fact that Google Search supports a vast array of languages, from widely spoken global languages to those used closer to home, including several vernacular Indian languages. There can be times when you would want to take advantage of this multilingual feature to explore information in a new language, conduct searches in the local language, or simply personalise your search experience.

Whatever the reason, changing the language in your Google Search app can be a great way to customise your searches and makes it easier to find what you need, wherever you are. So, to help you do the same, here’s how to go about changing languages in the Google Search app.

How to go about changing the language on the Google Search app

If you’re looking to search the web in a new language, here’s how you can do the same.

On Android:

1. Open the Google Search app.

2. Tap your profile picture or icon in the top right corner.

3. Select ‘Settings’ and then ‘Language & region.’

4. Under ‘Search language,’ choose your preferred language.

On iPhone or iPad:

Unfortunately, as of this writing, you can’t directly change the Google Search app language on an iPhone or iPad. You’ll need to adjust your device’s overall language settings, which will affect all apps, not just Google Search.

Here’s how you can do it:

1. Go to your iPhone or iPad’s Settings app.

2. Tap ‘General’ and then ‘Language & Region.’

3. Select ‘iPhone or iPad Language,’ and choose your preferred language.

And that’s how you can easily change the language of the Google Search app to surf the web in your preferred language.

Google Search app features

The Google Search smartphone app offers some unique features compared to the desktop/web version, alongside the functionalities you’d expect:

1. Google Discover:

This is a personalised feed of news articles, videos, and other content based on your interests and search history. You can explore various topics and dive deeper into anything that catches your eye.

2. Collections:

This feature allows you to save any search result, be it a webpage, image, or location, into categorised groups for later reference. It’s like creating your own personalised mini-boards on interesting topics you find while searching.

3. Camera Search (Google Lens):

This feature takes advantage of your phone’s camera to visually search your surroundings. You can point your camera at a landmark, product, or even text, and Google Lens will try to identify it, providing relevant information or search results.
