And yes, it is, in fact, pink

HMD’s new retro flip phone is a dream come true for Barbie fans

Dust off your dream houses and hold on to that pink hair brush because HMD Global just announced a Barbie-themed retro flip phone that is right out of your wildest millennial dreams. Apart from being a fundamentally basic device, the phone is — you guessed right — pink.

However, manufacturer HMD mentions how the flip phone is not just for avid Barbie fans, but is also for those who want to cut down on ‘digital distractions’ today. Check out all you need to know:

HMD Barbie Phone: Features to look out for

For starters, the HMD Barbie Phone is only available in pink, and it doesn’t sport a selfie camera. Instead, it gets a screen on the front that doubles up as a mirror for all the times you want a quick touch-up. The device, however, gets a 0.3MP rear camera that the brand claims can take perfect Y2K photos for Instagram.

The phone also comes with true, brightly coloured replaceable back panels along with a set of stick-on crystals and vintage Barbie stickers for users who want to personalise it. Apart from this, HMD has also thrown in a beaded phone strap with pink and yellow beads with Mattel’s iconic doll charms.

Apart from the pink exterior, the phone even gets its unique Barbie interface with wallpapers and app icons. To promote digital detox, HMD has additionally included digital well-being tools, including the ‘Digital Balance Tips’ app, ‘BarbieMeditation’ that provide timely self-care reminders. Fans also get treated to custom ringtones, including ‘floating’, ‘Coastal’, ‘DreamHouse’, ‘Azure Barbie’ and ‘Surf Chimes’.

But that’s not all, HMD and Mattel have also included a bunch of easter eggs, where typing *#227243# (Barbie) on the keypad brings up Barbie wallpapers. Or *#ken# or *#536# for greetings and *#malibu# for Malibu Beach sounds. Lastly, the phone comes with a 1,450mAh removable battery that the brand claims can last up to nine hours of talk time.

HMD Barbie Phone: Price and availability

The HMD Barbie Phone is priced at 99 GBP (roughly Rs 11,010) in the UK and 129 Euros in Europe. While it isn’t certain if HMD will ever bring the device to the Indian market, it will be available starting August 28 in the above-mentioned regions.
