Here’s why you need a full-frame camera if you’re an aspiring photographer

There are people who like to take pictures, and then are people who like to compose them. If you happen to be one of the latter, chances are, your photography equipment consists of more than just a smartphone and a selfie stick.

Now, just as much as great photographs demand skill, they also demand great equipment. One such piece of equipment is a DSLR. However, not many know that there are different kinds of DSLRs available. One such camera is which includes a full-frame sensor. So, what is it, and why should you consider one? Read on to find out.

What full-frame cameras bring to the table

A full-frame camera, simply put, is a camera with an image sensor that is the same size as the frame of a 35mm film. If you’re wondering why this should matter, it’s simply because this ensures, your images don’t get cropped. One can therefore take photographs with a wider field, than one with a cropped sensor. If you were to click a landscape image with a wide-angle lens for example, coupled with a full frame, it ensures you can capture the entirety of it.

Full-frame cameras then, are not just great for capturing the great outdoors. They are also great for things as simple as capturing your entire family during that annual family get-together. You can now ensure none of your relatives are cropped, saving you the trouble of having to awkwardly add them in later.

Not just that. Full frame cameras, owing to the size of the sensor, also can capture more light in the images, which allows for clear, sharp photos, even in low-light settings. The lower depth-of-field also means macro, or even portrait photography becomes easier. If you’re one with an eye for details then, a full-frame camera is the one for you.

Things to keep in mind when buying a full-frame camera

Now, if you happen to be a professional photographer, or aspire to be one for that matter, there are several considerations to be taken into account while buying a camera. Just some of them are image resolution, ISO range, shutter speeds, viewfinders, and lens compatibility. These are crucial factors to be considered whether one opts to buy an SLR, a DSLR, or a mirrorless camera for that matter.

However, lens compatibility becomes all the more important in the case of full-frame cameras. Not all lenses fit on a full-frame camera. A lens for a full-frame camera also requires a full-frame mount for it to work. Smaller mounts meant for cropped sensors will mean that the edges of the sensor aren’t fully exposed, and it won’t truly capture the entirety of the frame you want it to.
