Artificial intelligence has been a hot topic since 2025 began, with China’s DeepSeek making its debut to ChatGPT image support for its WhatsApp extension. But if that wasn’t nearly enough, Google, on Wednesday, opened up its most advanced AI model — Gemini 2.0 — to everyone.
The release introduces three models, including Gemini 2.0 Flash (for general use), 2.0 Pro Experimental (for advanced coding), as well as 2.0 Flash-Lite (for cost-effective applications). Here’s everything you need to know:
Gemini 2.0 Flash, 2.0 Pro Experimental and 2.0 Flash-Lite models: What's there to know?
The announcement comes shortly after the brand rolled out Gemini 2.0 Flash to all its users. This time around, the brand, via a blog post, mentioned how it’s also making its most advanced model available as an experiment for coding performance and complex prompts. Google’s Gemini 2.0 Pro comes with a 2-million-token context window, which means it can process roughly up to 1.5 million words at once.
Google also mentions how the model can be integrated with Search and execute code directly for users. This also makes it a strong competitor in the up-and-coming AI development space. Apart from this, its regular 2.0 Flash model, which was unveiled at its December 2024 release, comes with improved performance that is cut out to process large amounts of information.

Lastly, the brand states that its 2.0 Flash-Lite model will be a new cost-effective solution that matches the speed and processing power of its predecessors. It adds that compared to Flash’s 10 cents, this model will only cost users 0.75 cents per one million tokens for text, videos and image inputs.
These changes broadly come in as the brand’s plan to move to a more ‘agentic’ AI era, which develops models capable of understanding more complex tasks.
Google Gemini 2.0 availability
Google states how Gemini 2.0 Pro will be available for use across Google AI Studio and Vertex AI, as well as the Gemini app for Gemini Advanced users. Apart from this, it also states how its new cost-effective model, Gemini 2.0 Flash-Lite will be available as a public preview for users on Google AI Studio and Vertex AI. It still remains unclear if other Google services plan to adopt Gemini 2.0 capabilities right away. For more news by Google, make sure you subscribe to Unboxed by Croma.
